The grand jury presented the following: Surveyors of the Highway: John Woods, surveyor of the highway leading from John Glenn's to Michael Spesards; also surveyor of the road from the ford of Catawba to the short turn; from Abraham Gishes to Thos. Madison's, for not keeping same in repair. Melon Hill placed under bond for his good behavior. John Kenny and William Kenny placed under bond for their good behavior. August 10, 1797 James Mason took oath as Major of the Militia of this Commonwealth. William Hite admitted Deputy Clerk. Anthony Haden took oath of Lieutenant of the Militia.
