Present: Robert Breckenridge, William Preston, John Bowyer, Israel Christian & Andrew Woods & Stephen Trigg, Gentlemen. Andrew Woods prvd. a certif. for 1044 lbs. of hemp, which is ord. to be certfd. Richard Woods prvd. a certif. for 1896 lbs. of hemp. John Moore prvd. a certif. for 2792 lbs. of hemp. John Cowarden prvd. a certif. for 1615 lbs. of hemp. Arthur McClure prvd. a certificate for 1990 lbs. of hemp. Ordered that John Russell, a servant of Abraham McClelan's, serve his said Master twenty two months & eighteen days over and above the time of his servitude for his trouble & expence in getting him when run away. John Moore's Negro boy Sambo adjudged to be seven years old and ordered to be recorded. John Moore's Negro girl Fanny adjudged to be six years old and ordered to be recorded. Ordered that John Cowden be apptd. Overseer of the Road in the room of William McBride, Francis Smith, Assistant Surveyor to Colo. Will Preston enters for two hundred acres of land on the north side of Roan Oak, opposite to the mouth of Back Creek the 6th day of June, 1771, made with Robert Breckenridge. James Thompson on Holston, John Stewart on Greenbrier, John Robinson on Dunlop's Creek near the County line, John Vanbebber near Muddy Creek, and Matthew Arbuckle on James River near the mouth of the Cowpastures recommend to his honor the President as first persons to act as Magistrates in Botetourt County. Ordered that Thomas Rowland be appointed Surveyor of the Road from Stephen Rentfroe's by the Bever Dam Spring to the Court House as was laid off by the viewers and do keep the same in good repair, and Andrew Woods to appoint the tithablcs to work thereon. Ord. that David Robinson be apptd. Surveyor of the Road in the place of Andrew Woods, who is dischd. from that office. Ordered that Robert Drake to take the list of tithables in Capt. Looney's, Bledsoe's and Campbell-Companies of Militia. Ordered that Anthony Bledsoe take a list of the _____ on Clinch _____. Ordered that Walter Crockett take the same in Capt. Doalk and his own Company of Militia. Ord. that William Herbert take the list in his own Company. Will Christian the same in Capt. Thompson's Company. Will Ingles the same from the river to the waters of Roan Oak. James Robinson the same in Capt. Robinson's Company. John Bowman the same in Love's Company. Francis Smith the same in his and Jonathan Smith's Company. Benjamin Hawkins the same in Robinson, Arbuckle's ditto. Benj. Estell the same in his last year's bounds. James Trimble the same from the north side of Buffalo to the County line. Ord. that this ct. be adjd. till court in course.
