Ord. that the ct. be adjd. till court in course. The minutes of these proceedings were signed by James Trimble At a court held for Botetourt County the 14th of March, 1775. Present. James Trimble, Philip Love, John Bowman and William McClanahan, Gent. Justices. The last will & testament of William Herberson, decd., was proved by the oath of Mary Herberson, wife of the said decedant in order to be recorded. Vincent Simpkins is set levy free on account of his being a cripple and unable to pay levies. Ord. that Edmund Marshall serve John Robinson, his master, nine months and fourteen days to reimburse him the time he was run away and for other expences of apprehending and bringing him to his master. Mary Gunn, servant woman of Thomas Posey, with the assent of the court agrees to serve her said Master one year after the term of her present servitude, to reimburse him his expense to the doctor on her acct., and it is also ordered that the said Mary serve her said Master two other years for having two bastard children. Ordered that the church wardens of Botetourt Parish do bind out Rebeccah McNeel, Nancy McNeel and Mary McNeel, orphans of John McNeel, decd., accdg. to law, the said Rebeccah to Francis Graham, the said Mary to William Graham, and the said Nancy to John Robinson. On the petition of James Milikin leave is granted him to keep an ordinary at his house in Greenbrier, he having entered into bond conditioned as the law directs with James Burnsides, his security. Ord. that the Sheriff summon twenty four of the most capable freeholders in (his County to appear at May Court next to serve as a Grand Jury of Inquest for the body of this County. The court doth set and allow the following rates to be observed by the ordinary keepers in this County, towit: L S D Madeira Wine per gal 10 Canary & Libson do. per do 10 For three pints toddy made with best India rum and single refined sugar and one half pt. rum 1 3 The same with Continental rum 1 Best India rum pr. gal 10 Continental rum pr. gal 6 Whiskey per gal 6 Peach Brandy per gal 6 Imported beer per gal. and porter 4 Home made beer per gal 2 6 Good cider, not bottled, per gal 2 6 The same bottled do 4 A warm diet with good meat 1 Cold do 7 1/2 Lodging in a good bed with clean sheets 6 Two or more in a bed 4 Pasturage or buy, 24 hours 7 1/2 Grain per gallon 6 Ordered that William Anderson be summoned to appear here at next court to answer the complaint of William Stope for wrongfully detaining him in servitude and that he do not presume to beat or misuse him upon this account and that he suffer him to attend here next court. Ord. that the ct. be adjd. till the court in course.
