Present. Robert Breckenridge, John Bowyer, James Trimble, Francis Smith & George Skillern, Gentlemen. Samuel Lewis produced a commission from the President & Masters of William and Mary College appointing him Surveyor of Botetourt County and Richard May the same appointing him Deputy under the said Samuel. Whereupon they took the usual oaths to his Majesty's Person & Govt., repeated & subscribed the test, and also took the oath of Surveyors. Samuel Lewis with Richard May, Robert Breckenridge and George Skillern, his securities, entered into & acknd. bond in five hundred pounds penalty for the said Samuel's true and faithful execution of the office of Surveyor of Botetourt County, which was ordered to be recorded. Richard May with Samuel Lewis, Robert Breckenridge and George Skillern, his securities, entered into and acknd. their bond in the above sum for the said Richard's true and faithful execution of the office of a Deputy Surveyor in this County, which was ordered to be recorded. This court doth appoint Joseph Looney guardian to Peter Looney, son of Peter Looney, deceased, in the room of James McCain and Jonathan Smith, who are dischd. from that office, he having first entered into and acknd. bond with George Skillern, his security in (rest missing). Ord. that the church wardens of Botetourt Parish bind out according to law Rosanna Dunn, a bastard child of _____ to James Gillis. On the motion of Robert Breckenridge a license is granted him to keep an ordinary at his house in this County, he having with _____ his security, entered into & acknd. bond in fifty pounds accdg. to law. Ord. that this ct. be adjd. till tomorrow morning, eight of the clock. The minutes of these proceedings were signed by John Bowyer At a court continued & held for Botetourt County the 9th day of December, 1772. Present. Robert Breckenridge, John Bowyer, James Trimble, George Skillern and James McGavock, John Maxwell, Gentlemen. James Smith is apptd. Constable on James River. Ordered that William Ross, James Snodgrass & Joseph Cloyd or any two of them being first sworn do view the way from Little's Mill to the Court House & make report thereof to the court. This court doth appoint James Robinson Constable, in the room of William Boone, who is dischd. from that office. Ordered that this court be adjd. till court in course.
