Present: Pat Lockhart, Adam Smyth, Wm. Madison and James Barnett, Gent. Justices. Nicholas Carper is apptd. Constable in the Town of Fincastle and the district adjoining. This court is adjd. till tomorrow morning, six o'clock. This procdg. was signed by Wm. Madison At a court contd. and held for Botetourt County the 14th day of January, 1780. Present: the Revd. Adam Smyth, Pat Lockhart, Wm. Ward and Martin McFarran, Gent. Justices. William Madison produced a commission from his Excellency the Governor appointing him Sheriff of this County during pleasure, dated the first day of October, 1779. Whereupon the said Madison took the oath required by law and entered into two bonds in the sum of four hundred pounds each according to law. Andrew Woods, one of the Gentlemen named in the Commission of the Peace for this County, took the oath reqd. by law. Ord. that Joseph and James Ward's claims each who served in Captain Dickerson's Company of Rangers in the years 1756 & 1757 as soldiers be certified, proof having been made to the court accdg. to law. Ord. that the court be adjd. till court in course.
