Present: Geo. Skillern, Pat Lockhart, Thos. Rowland, the Revd. Adam Smyth & John Armstrong, Gent. Justices. A licence is granted to Stephen May to keep an ordinary at the house of Thomas Bowyer in the Town of Fincastle, who entered into bond with David May his secty. accdg. to law. David McClenachan is exempted from paying levys in future on acct. of his age & infirmity. John Little the same as next above. Ordered that fifteen pounds be allowed to Jonathan Newman for a bushel of corn furnished for the use of the deserters in this goul, and the Sheriff is to pay it out of the dopositum. Samuel Walker, Junr. with Luke Pryor and James Mason his securities entered into and acknd. bond in the sum of fifty thousand pounds of tobacco payable to his Excellency the Governor for the sd. Samuel Walker's true and faithful discharge of his duty as Surveyor of this County. Saml. Walker, Junr., took the oath reqd. by law as Surveyor of this County. John Pittser is apptd. Surveyor of the Road in the room of Luke Pryor who is dischd. from that office. Stephen May took the oath reqd. by law as Deputy Sheriff in & about the Town of Fincastle. Ord. that John Serverles, Surveyor of the Road from Jas. McAfee's to Taylor's mills who is to keep the same in repair as the law directs. James King is apptd. a Deputy Surveyor under Saml. Walker, Junr., Surveyor of this County whereupon he took the oath reqd. by law. This court doth appt. Mr. Joseph Kyle to purchase a waggon and team on behalf of this County for the use of the troops who are to fill up this State's quota of troops for the Continental Army. Ordered that twenty thousand pounds be levied on the assessable property in this County to pay for said horse & waggon. Ord. that Robert Anderson be allowed the sum of two hundred & fifteen pounds for beef furnished by him for the use of the prisoners and guard in this County which sum the Sheriff is hereby ordered to pay him out of the depositum when so much money may come into his hands. Ord. that the court be adjd. till tomorrow morning, ten o'clock. The mins. of these prcdgs. were signed by Geo. Skillern At a court continued ct. held for Botetourt County the 9th day of Feby., 1781. Present: Geo. Skillern, Pat Lockhart, the Revd. Adam Smyth, & Martin McFarran, Gent. Justices. Adam Peck an Ensign in the Militia in this County took the oath by law required. In obedience to an order of this court passed court May approving Wm. Bilbro to purchase a quantity of bacon and corn for the support of Mary Price and one child whose husband is a soldier in the State service, he having returned one account to the court of his purchasing five bushels of rye and twenty five pounds of butter, pork & corn not to be had, ordered that it be certified to the Auditor of Publick Accounts that he be allowed eighteen pounds per bushell for the rey and twelve dollars per pound for the butter.
