Present: Thomas Rowland, Martin McFarran, Robert Poague, Samuel Eason and William Walton, Gent. Justices. Curtis Alderson is apptd. Surveyor of the Road in the room of Joseph Carroll, who is dischd. from that office. The order entered at September Court, 1778 directing the church wardens of Botetourt Parish to bind out Catharine Hance, a bastard child of Grace Thompson, to Lettie Breckinridge accdg. to law is hereby set aside. Jasper Terry, Jonathan Grimes and James Turman being first sworn do view the road from the road that leads from Henry County's to the top of the mountain on Little River to the Montgomery line leading towards the lead mines and report the nearest and best way to the court. Henry Lewis is set levy free on acct. of his age & infirmity. Ord. that Henry Watterson's inclusive survey be certfd. to the Register as it appears to this court just & reasonable. Ord. that the road be opened from Sledding's Branch to the fork of Catawba Road agreeable to the way proposed by Colo. Thomas Rowland and Mr. Andrew Henry. Ord. Stephen May, Nicholas Carper, Robert Harvy, and Saml. McRoberts, Junr., being first sworn, do view the way from Mr. Harvey's field and report the best way to the court. Thomas Madison is apptd. State's Attorney in this County. Ordered that four thousand pounds of tobacco be ordered for Thomas Madison for acting as State's Attorney for this County for the ensuing year. Ord, that the ct. be adjd. till the court in course.
