Present: Geo. Skillern, Win, Ward, Pat Lockhart & Wm. Walton, Gent. Justices. The last will & testament of General Andrew Lewis, decd., was prvd. in ct. by Thomas Lewis & Andrew Lewis, his sons, two of the Exors. named therein, & was prvd. by the oaths of Wm. Neelly, James Neelly and Andrew Armstrong, the witnesses thereto and ord. to be recd. And on the motion of the sd. Exors., who made oath & entd. into bond in the sum of twenty thousand pounds specie with Wm. Fleming and David May their securities, certificate is grtd. them for obtaining a probate thereof in due form. Henry Server took the oaths of allegiance to this State. John Wills' ear mark is admitted to record to wit: a crop and slit in the right ear and a half crop in the left ear and a piece of the tail cut off the said sows. Mathew Willson and Robert Harvey are apptd. Commissioners of the Specific Tax in this County for the present year. Ord. that Saml. McClure, David Henderson, John Shields and Moses Bennett being first sworn do view the road from Hugh Allen's (big mouth) to Vinsandt's Mill and make report of the same to the court. Administration of the estate of Richard May, decd., was grtd. to Agness May who made oath and entd. into bond in the sum of ten thousand pounds accdg. to law, with Thomas Madison and Francis Smith, her securities. The last will & testament of Robt. Rowland, decd., was prestd. in court and was prvd. by the oath of Jas. Mull, one of the witnesses hereto. Ord. that the Sheriff take a Negro man named George Green and hire him out until it can be made to appear whether he be free or not and that he advertize him in the Virginia Gazette. On the petition of Michael Ocletree leave is granted him to build a water grist mill on Rennix's Run upon his own land and that no person can be injured thereby. Ord. that the ct. be adjd. till tomorrow morning, ten o'clock. The mins. of these prcdgs. were signed by Geo. Skillern At a ct. contd. & held for Botetourt County the 15th day of Feby., 1782. Present: Geo. Skillern, Wm. Ward, Martin McFarran, William Walton and James Barnett, Gent. Justices. On the motion of Thomas Massie is ord. that the Surveyor of this County include his lands in the Falling Spring Valley in one survey, it appearing to the court he hath complied with the law in this case made. Wm. Ward, Martin McFarran and Geo. Hutcheson are apptd. Commissioners of the Land Tax in this County for the present year. John Bailer is apptd. to take a list of all male white tithables above the age of twenty one years, also the names of all slaves, specifying to whom they belong, also the number of all heads cattle, horses, mares, colts and mules, whether for riding, carriages, billiard tables and ordinary licences, which articles are to be placed under the names of the persons to whom they respectively belong, on the tenth day of April next, if not on Sunday, in that case the next day, the return to be made to you of the property they have in possession on the ninth of April next, and you are also to return a fair copy thereof to the Clerk of the County on the first day of next June in your own and Galloway's Militia Company. Also Wm. Davidson the same in Capt. Beard's and Pryor's Company of Militia. Thomas Rowland the same in Captain Mills' k Cartmill's Companies of Militia. Pat Lockhart the same in Capt. Smith's and Robinson's Companies of Militia. Robert Poage in Capt. May's Company of Militia. Wm. Neelly in Capt. Paulin's and Neelly's do. Wm. Walton in Capt. Lewis' Company of Militia. James Barnett in his own Company of Militia. Josiah Menter in his own Company of Militia. Saml. Eason in his own Company of Militia. Geo. Rutledge in Capt. Watterson's Company of Militia. Adam Smyth in Capt. Horton's Co. of Militia. Wm. Hamilton in Capt. Looney's Co. of Militia. Wm. Ward produced a commission from the President of the Council apptg. him Lieutenant Colo, of the Militia in this County, whereupon he took the oath by law required. Ord. that Joseph Clark remove himself out of the courthouse so soon as he returns home. Ord. that the ct. be adjd. till the court in course. The mins. of these prcdgs. were signed by Geo.
