Present: Martin McFarran, Robt. Poage, Wm. Davidson and Wm. Neelly, Gent. Justices. Andrew Lewis who had leave to reserved for him to join in the administration of the estate of Wm. Madison at the last April Court, comes into court and joins Wm. Preston, and Thomas Madison, the other administrators, in the letters of administration. Whereupon he made oath and entered into & acknd. bond in the sum of two thousand pounds accdg. to law with James Bryants and David May, his securities. Wm. & Joseph Frazer took the oaths of Deputy Sheriffs under Wm. McClenachan, High Sheriff of this County. Wm. Dandren took the oath of Deputy Sheriff under Wm. McClenachan, High Sheriff of said County. Ord. that the ct. be adjd. The mins. of these prcdgs. were signed by Pat Lockhart At a court held at Botetourt Courthouse on Monday the 15th day of July, 1782 for the examn. of Wm. Thomas on suspicion of his having feloniously forged and uttered a certificate for the delivery of a substitute in the room of Abraham Beams, a Continental soldier &c. Prisoner pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court heard evidence and are of opinion that the accused should be acquitted. Ord. that the ct. be adjd. till court in course.
