Present: Geo. Skillern, Revd. Adam Smyth, John Armstrong and Thos. Rowland, Gent. Justices. David McClenachan, Junr., is apptd. Constable in Captain May's Company of militia. On the motion of Revd. Caleb Wallace leave is granted him to build a water grist mill on his own land on the Little Fork of Buffaloo Creek below James Robinson's plantation, it appearg. to the ct. that no person will be injured thereby except James Robinson, who consents thereto. John Depew is apptd. Surveyor of the Road from the Big Lick to the County line near Mrs. Slavins, decd., the tithables within three miles on each side of said road to attend and work thereon to keep the same in repair as the law directs. Tho presentment was dismissed and it is ordered that Geo. Skillern, Gent., appoint the tithables to work under him from Brown's Run to the Great Road that leads from Stanton to this County. Myers Allen who was fined at last court for not keeping the road in repair appeared in court and for reasons appearing to the court the said fine is remitted. Vaulentine Martin, the successor in office in the Presbyterian Congregation known by the name of the Speaking Spring Congregation, trustees of said Congregation, in the County of Botetourt of the other part was acknowledged by said Harris and wife, she having been first privily examined as the law directs and ordered to be recorded. Ord. that the sum of ten shillings be allowed to David Reece for ten bushels and one half of wheat for the use of the militia to York Town. The same to Samuel Poage for the same service as above. John Kincade is apptd. Constable in the room of William who is dischd. from that office. Ord. that the sum of three pounds seven shillings and ten pence be allowed to George Gregor for four hundred and seven pounds of beef for the militia on their march to York Town. Leonard Israel Fleming is apptd. Dep. Surveyor under Saml. Walker, Surveyor of this County, who took the oath & entd. into bond with Wm. Fleming his secty. in the sum of 500 lbs. accdg. to law. Ord. that the sum of six pounds nine shillings be allowed to Geo. Wattwood for tho hire of a horse eighty six days for the use of the Volunteers on their way to the southward to join General Green. Ord. that the sum of twenty one pounds be allowed to the same for one black horse thirteen years old four feet seven inches high lost by the Volunteers in Carolina under General Green. Ord. that the sum of three pounds eleven (word omitted) and ten pence be allowed to James McAfee for four hundred & thirty one pounds of beef furnished the militia at Point Pleasant. John Brown, Gent., produced a commission from Thomas Nelson, late Governor of Virginia, to practice as an Attorney in the County Courts of this State. Whereupon he took the oath of an Attorney by law reqd. to practice in this Court. Thomas Hall, Gentleman, the same as in preceding order. Ord. that the ct. be adjd. till ct. in course.
