BOTETOURT COUNTY, VA – DEED: JAMES CRAWFORD/PHILIP CRISS, 1824 ----???---- Botetourt County, Virginia Deed Book 16, pp 27-29 LDS0030709 Crawford & ux to Criss - Deed p 27 This Indenture made this twenty third day of March in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight hundred & Twenty four Between James Crawford & Jane his wife of the County of Botetourt & state of Virginia of the one part & Philip Criss Jun of the same place of the other part. Witness- eth that said James Crawford & Jane his wife for and in con- sideration of the sum of Seven hundred & fifty Dollars the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath given granted bargained & sold & by these presents doth give grant bargain & sell unto the said Philip Criss Jun his heirs and assigns a cert- ain tract or parcel of Land containing one hundred & p 28 thirteen acres more or less as specified by a patent bearing date November the third day 1750 lying and being in the County of Botet- ourt on Craig’s Creek, and bounded as followeth to wit, Beginning at two pines on the East side of the Creek, running thence South Seventy degrees west sixty four poles crossing the Creek to two white oaks and a pine, thence north 30 degrees west sixty six poles to a spanish oak & white oak, thence north nine degrees west two hundred poles to three white oaks, thence north sixty five Degrees, East sixty poles to four poplars growing from one root, on the west side of the Creek, thence South fifteen Degrees, East two hundred and sixty six poles, crossing the Creek to the Beginning -To have & to hold the said Lands & premises with their and every of their appurtenances, unto the said Philip Criss Jun his heirs and assigns forever, and the said James Crawford & Jane his wife for themselves their heirs Executors & administrators the before mentioned Lands & premises, with all and singular the buildings improvements and appurtenances unto the said Philip Criss Jun, his heirs and assigns will warrant and forever defend against every person or persons whatsoveer claiming or to claim the same. In testimony whereof the said James Crawford & Jane his wife have hereunto set their hands & affixed their Seals, the date above written. James Crawford Seal Jane Crawford Seal Botetourt County to wit – We Joseph Hannah & John Allen, Justices of the Peace in the County aforesaid in the State of Virginia do hereby certify that James Crawford & Jane his wife parties to a certain Deed bearing Date on the twenty third Day of March 1824 and hereto ann- exed personally appeared before us, in our County aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be their act & Deed and desired us to certify the said acknowledgement to the Clerk of the County Court for p 29 Botetourt in order that the said Deed may be recorded. Given under our hands & seals this 23rd Day of March 1824. Joseph Hannah Seal John Allen Seal Botetourt County to wit: We Joseph Hannah & John Allen Justices of the Peace in the County aforesaid in the State of Virginia do hereby certify that Jane Crawford, the wife of James Crawford, parties to a certain Deed bearing Date on the twenty third day of March 1824, and hereunto annexed personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid, and being examined by us privily and apart from her husband and having the Deed aforesaid fully explained to her, she the said Jane Crawford, acknowledged the same to be her act & Deed, & declared that she had willingly signed sealed and delivered the same & that she wished not to retract it.
