Allen and Lucy B. Allen his wife of the county of Botetourt and State of Virginia of the first part and William Dodd of the second part of the county and State aforesaid witnesseth, that James S. Allen and Lucy his wife hath this day sold and conveyed a certain tract or parcel of land, lying and being in the county of Botetourt on the north side of James river and adjoins the land which Matthew Mayse purchased of Chas. B. Penn, a part of a tract which was sold to William Dodd Senior by Charles Starroll supposed to convey two hundred acres which was laid off by Mr. Brooks as one equal moiety of an original survey of four hundred acres formerly owned by a man by the name of Herd and by him sold to Brook and from Brook to Starroll and from Starroll to Dodd and bounded as followeth to wit: Beginning at the line of the original tract on a dry arm of the river and runneth thence S 73 E 33 to a double cedar and white oak S 17 W 226 poles passing two hickories at 100 poles corner to the land Penn sold to Brooks with a line of the same to a large Spanish oak corner to said land Brooks sold to Penn thence with the lines of the same S 37 W 113 poles to a poplar N 85 W 4 poles to a double and single Spanish oak saplin by the fence thence S 29 W 104 poles to an ash on the bank (of the river thence up the river as it meanders and bendings thereon 256 p to a large red oak, thence leaving the river S 58 E 70 to two white oaks on the top of a ridge and thence N 17 E 238 poles to the beginning), being one half of the aforesaid tract of two hundred acres sold to Wm. Dodd deceased and by him willed to his two sons William and John. Now the said James S. Allen and Lucy B. Allen his wife will sell and convey to the said William Dodd that moiety of one hundred acres which he purchased of John Dodd by deed bearing date the 5th day of Sept. 1828 and recorded in the Clerks office of the County Court of Botetourt, a reference to which Deed may be referred, conveying one equal moiety of said land for and in consideration of the sum of Two hundred and thirty five dollars to them in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath granted, bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said William Dodd one half of that moiety of land willed to John Dodd by his father William Dodd deceased the title of which I will warrant and defend against the claim of myself, my heirs or assigns.
