Headley", 1997 Whereas by decree of the Circuit Court of Rockbridge County entered Sept 13th 1871 and Sept 17th 1872 in the Chancy cause? there in finding of James M. Hamilton & wife vs. John Thompson and others S McMoon and J. G. Stub were appointed special commissioners to make sale of the seven fifteenths (7/15) of a tract of land situated in the County of Botetourt Va. On James River about ten Miles below the town of Buchanan and upon which John Thompson then resided and known as the "Lackey farm" and whereas at said sale Mrs. Isabell G. Thompson became the purchaser of said land, and whereas said sale being reported to the said Circuit Court was satisfied and confirmed and whereas Mrs. I. G. Thompson did before Conveyance was made to her of the said land, and whereas by her last will and testament recorded in the County Court clerk's office of Botetourt Co. She divisioned the said land to her three children Robert W. Thompson, Kate Z. Thompson, and Joseph B. Thompson and whereas the said --- filed their petition in the said Chancery Court setting up these facts and --- the conveyance be made to them of the said land and whereas the said Circuit Court of Rockbridge Co. By a decree entered Sept 9th 1896 in the said cause of Hamilton & wife v. John Thompson -- and the cause of I. G. Lackey Mrs. Lackey's heirs (the two causes being heard together) decreed that when the purchase money should have been full paid E. P. Houston a special commissioner for the purchase appointed should convey the said land to the devices? aforesaid or to whomever they may in writing direct and whereas the purchase money aforesaid has bee fully paid and Joseph B. Thompson and Kate J. Thompson by a writing dated Dec. 14, 1896 (and witnessed By H(K?). M. Thompson filed in said causes have directed the conveyance to be made to R. W. Thompson. Now this deed made this 26th January 1897 between W. T?. Houston Special Commissioner aforesaid of the first part and Robert W. Thompson of the second part witsefeth that for and in consideration of the premises as well as of the sum of five dollars in hand paid the party of the first part doth grant and convey with special warranty unto the party of the second part the 7/15ths interest in the land aforesaid being the interest therein purchased as aforesaid by Mrs. Isabella G. Thompson and devised by her to the persons aforesaid testify the following signature and seal W. T. Houston Spe Com. SEAL State of Virginia County of Rockbridge to wit:
