Notes: handwriting on envelope appears to be the same as the handwriting in the letter, but the "M" and "S" on the envelope are fancy. Jan. 19, 1937 Dear Maurice, Your welcomed and highly appreciated letter recd. Some few weeks ago was Indeed glad to here from you but you don't know the Shock It gave me when I read of your dear mother death a girl and friend I have Known for years and year we played together as Children went to School together and grew up to woman hood together and after our marriage we did not live very far apart they broke up here [inserted between lines: after that] and moved to Covington. Va. from there they went west before I Knew It. But we have 2 kept up our Correspondence until last January when I failed to here from her I Knew It was Something Wrong. but I was In Norfolk at that time. Does Margaret and Marie live with you and your father? Are they Married and live to them Selves I fully remember your mother writing me of Thelma death and leaving the child Is It living? And does her husband live In Lowell. You Spoke of having Some prints made from Some Snapshots you had of your mother and father Please 3 do this and dont forget the one you promised me. for It will mean much to me I have a good many pictures of you all from the time you were children until your all graduation but haven't any token the last few years. Tell your father my brother [Snead] Strickland lost his Son 29 years of age with Spinal Menengitis last March It worried me lots for I had kept him when his mother died until he was a great big boy and he almost Seemed like one of mine. I am Still In bed and will be 2 yrs In March Seems 4 I don't Improve any Stay about one thing all the time but Since the weather has gotten Cold I Cant get up and around like I did So Am In bed most all the time. Tell your father the old town not what It used to be that you Seldom ever See a familiar face except Mr. C.S. Blount and Eugene Garland of course there people In the County he knew that I did not most all the old homes broken up except his Sister Miss Ella my first School 5 teacher She bought the old Meadow's house on law St. they tell me she gotten right feeble I haven't Seen her Since I have been Sick. My mother and father are both dead and every member of the Zimmerman family gone except Eugene and Orio. and Lelia. My four brothers and Sister live here In town they live on One side of the river and we on the other. Snead right feeble and has been Since his Son death last year. 6 Does your father ever Speak of Coming back to Va. Are you married? If So hope you got a girl that loves you and you her and do all you Can to Make her happy for It means a lot I think to take a girl from home and Mistreat them.
