Reference 1787-1788, P-80) I do herby Certify my assent to John Dempsey marrying Rachel Solomon for whom I am Guardian Given under my hand and Seal this 5th day of Sept'r. 1788. Joseph Jenkins (Seal) Witness- James Scott James Trenor ----------------------------------------------------------- KNOW all men by these presents that we John Dempsey and William Snow of the County of Botetourt are held and firmly bound to his Excellency Edmund Randolph Esq. Governor of Virginia and his successors in the sum of fifty pounds current money. To the payment whereof well and truly to be made we do bind ourselves our Heirs, Executors and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our Seals this fifth day of September 1788 and in the Thirteenth year of the commonwealth. THE Condition of this obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage shortly intended to be solemnized between the above bound John Dempsey and Racheal Soloman of the county of Botetourt for which he hath this day obtained a license; if therefore there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage, then this obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force.
