Appointed by the said order I have surveyed and laid off for Margaret Allen Widow & relict of Malcom Allen Decd her dower in the land of the said Decd. I have also laid off to heirs of the said Malcom Decd their respective Shares & the residue of the said land agreeable to the above & annexed plats & certificate of Survey [xx xx Xxx Xxx -- crossed out] widow’s dower in the said land contains 33 Acres & is No 4 Including the dwelling house & barn & is bounded as followeth to wit Begining at a walnut stump above a hickory on the bank of the Creek at G corner to No3 [thence with line of the same – these words are inserted above the line] through the bottom N32E[56] poles on the out side line at [F] [pafsing] 3 [feet] east of a marked b. oak N52W85 po to I on the out side line on the side of the hill thence with No5 S35W61 poles through the bottom to the creek at M two poles above marked Locust.Thence Down the Creek 88 poles to the Begining — No1 containing 23 acres 4 1/2 acres thereof is part of the old tract & the residue there of is part of the tract of 30 acres which was granted to sd Malcom Decd by patent bearing date the 1st day of Sept 1800 & the same was alloted to John Allen and is bounded as followeth to wit Begining at a black oak & white oak [on the] hill side at [B or R] corner to the old tract & said grant of 30 acres. Thence with the line of the old tract N52W4[-- to a] hickory & corner to No[2]. Thence with a line of the same S29 W44 poles to [Hic out] at [C] 2 feet above a sycamore. Thence [--------] the creek as it meanders 93 poles to hickory & hickory added corner to said grant of [3]0 acres at P. Thence with said [grant] N41 E12 po to a black oak & black ok [cut down] at Q N26 W46 po to three pines at R N48W63 po crofsing small branch to a stake at U on the out line & with the same S50W31 po to the Begining. No2 is part of the old tract & contains 9½ acres & is alloted to Joseph Allen and is bounded as follows to wit Begining at a stake two feet above a sycamore on the bank of the creek at C corner to No1. Thence with the lines of the same N 29E44 po to the outside line at B at a hickory. Thence with said line N 52W31 po to E on [said] line corner to No3 thence with the Same S39W57 po to the creek at D at a sycamore thence [down] the creek 31 po to the Begining. No3 is part of the old tract & contains 10¼ acres and is alloted to Archibald Allen and is bounded as followeth to wit Begining at C [this should say G] on the bank of the Creek at a walnut stump above a hickory corner to No4 thence -------- & with the creek 32 po to a sycamore at D corner to No2 thence with a line of the same N 29 E 57 po to [lo Li] on the last [line] of the old tract [passing] a marked black oak on the hill side thence with said line N 52W29 po to a stake at E corner to No4 the Widows Dower & thence with the said S32W56poles to the Begining. No14 is part of the grant of [30] acres granted to sd Allen Dec by Patent bearing date the 1st of Sept 1800 & contains 12 acres & was alloted to Jos Allen & added to No2 for timber Begining at 3 pines at R corner to said grant thence with the line of the same N 5 E 68 po to two pines at S N 81 W 20 po crofsing the branch above the fork xx ["at" crossed out] to a white pine at T thence S50W42 po to a stake at U thence ["sd" or "to"] Division line S 48 E 63 po crofsing the branch to the begining. The tract of 50 acres of land on the south side of Craigs Creek which was granted to said Malcum Allen Decd by Patent bearing date the 27th of March 1801 is alloted to Archibald [& William – these two words inserted above the line] Allen & is added to the lots No 3 & 5 for timber. [top of page 129 -- plat map for the following:] This tract 33 Acres which was granted to [Jno] Crawford by Patent bearing date the 20th April 1798 The property which became vested in the said Allen Decd lying on the Dutchman’s run one third of which Including one third of the Timber thereon is alloted to the said Widow Margaret Allen as part of her Dower & added to her lot No4 for timber for the same & the residue of the said grant of 33 acres is alloted to Mary Ann Allen & Newtan Allen & added to their lots No6 & 7 for timber. Wm Anderson S BC February 28th 1817 Pursuant to an order of Botetourt County January Court 1817 we have [With] the Surveyor of the said County laid off & Asfigned to Margaret Allen Widow of Malcum Allen Decd her Dower in the land of the said [decidant] and we have also Divided the residue thereof Amongst the Children of the Said Decd agreeable to the annexed plats & [reports] signed by William Anderson the Surveyor –reserving to the propriators of each lot the free & undisturbed priveledge of roads to haul the timber respectively alloted to them.
