Will of Jane C. Broughman, 1920 - Botetourt Co. VA Will Book 3, pp 394-395 In the Name of God Amen. I Jane C. Broughman of the County of Botetourt and State of Virginia being of sound mind and disposing memory, but being advanced in years and realizing the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death, do make and declare this my Last Will and Testament as follows- 1. My will is that after my death that all my debts, if any be paid, and that my doctor bills, and funeral expenses to be paid, out of the proceeds of the sale of my property, if it becomes necessary to make sale of any property, to pay such debts or expenses. 2. My will is that each of my children, to wit Mary Crowder, Fannie Davis, Alice Wright and Cassie J. Wilhelm, be paid one dollar each, and that the remainder of my property shall go to my sons George K. Broughman and John P. Broughman to be held by them jointly and equally. Given under my hand and seal this 13th day of November 1920. Jane C. P. Austin In the office of the Clerk of Circuit Court o Botetourt November 30 1926. A paper writing bearing date November 13 1920, purporting to be the Last Will and Testament of Jane C. Broughman, deceased, late of this county, was this day produced to me in my office by George C. Broughman and John P. Broughman and was fully proven according to law by oath of W. P. Austin, one of the subscribing witnesses thereto, who testified that the paper writing was executed by the testatrix and acknowledged by her as her Last Will and Testament in the presence of the said W. P. Austin and W. I. Austin, the other subscribing witness thereto, and that the said W. P. Austin and W. I. Austin in the presence and at the request of the testatrix, and in the presence of each other, signed their names thereto as attesting witnesses and that the said testatrix was of sound mind and memory. Whereupon the said writing is admitted to record as the Last Will and Testament of the said Jane. C. Broughman, deceased.
