All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Janet King JPerdue192@aol.com February 9, 2009, 3:27 pm Source: Circuit Court Botetourt Co., Va Will Book A, Pg. 148 Written: January 15, 1782 Recorded: February 1782 In the Name of God Amen I Casper Sarver of Botetourt County and province of Virginia Yeomen being very sick and weak of imperfect health of body but of perfect mind and Memory thanks be given unto God calling unto Mind the Mortality of my Body do make and ordain this my last will and Testament in manner following: I recommend my Soul into the hands of the Almighty God that gave it and my Body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in a decent and Christian Burial at the descretion of my Executors and as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this Life I give, devise, dispose of the same in the following Manner and Form: 1st. I give and bequeath to Elizabeth my dearly beloved wife the Chest, Beds and Cloaths and body Cloaths and twelve pounds in John Smallwoods hands and two cows and all my household furniture and one ax and half the hogs, eight bushalls of small grains. Also I give to my well beloved son Henry and Casper my land to Henry the upper part the house and cleared land and plantation and Casper the lower if he is alive at my decease with paying half the cost and the said Casper being not alive his wife shall heir none of my estate. Also my son Henry the waggon and Geese and lock chain and the brass kettle and the plough and book of martre. Also my beloved son John my Still and Still vessels and Bible. Articles not mentioned shall be divided equally each Heir a part and I do herby utterly disallow and revoke all former Testaments. My Legacies and executors ratifying and confirming this & no other to be my last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this fifteenth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eight two. Signed sealed and published pronounced and declared by said Casper (hisXmark) Sarver Casper Sarver as his last Will & Testment in presence of us William Davis Joseph Summerfield Casper Long February Botetourt Court 1782 This Instrument of writing was presented in Court as and for the last will and Testament of Casper Sarver deceased and proved by the oaths of William Davis and Casper Long two of the witnesses and ordered to be recorded and on the Motion of Henry Sarver the Executor therin named who made oath according to Law Certificate is granted him for obtaining a Probate thereof who together with Hugh Caldwell and John Taylor his Securities entered into and acknowledged Bond in one thousand Pounds Specie. Examined according to Law Test David May CBC Additional Comments: Casper Sarver may have came from Switzerland to Pennsylvania when young. He was listed in Botetourt Co., VA as early as 1772 living on Craig's Creek. Casper contributed a beef to the Revolution. The wife - Elizabeth - mentioned in his 1782 appears not to be mother of sons Henry, John and Casper for when she died in 1790 in Botetourt she left her entire estate to Julius Webb (relationship?). Henry and John Sarver moved to Sumner Co., TN. Family tradition from both brothers descendents that they spoke German.
