Will of John Thompson, 1822 - Botetourt Co. VA I John Thompson of Botetourt Countydo hereby make the followingas my last will and testament. First I appoint my sons John W Thompson and Creed T. Thompson as my executors who are in the first place to pay all my just debts Secondly to my wife Judith Thompson I give and bequeath during her natural life the following slaves viz Tino, Daniel, Jamck, Milla, Hanny, Sarah, Dinah, Liddy and Delcey also the whole and Eutisc tract on which I now live untill my son Bartlett becomes of lawful age and on his arriving to lawful age she is to have in ???? thereof the old Survey of four hundred acres and upwards given by Benja West to his son Washington West Including the Spring and the Mansion House in which I now live -- I give to my son Bartlet the following slaves to wit, Charles, Hannah, Carter, Lavina, Isaac, Lina, which slaaves I wish to be kept and worked on the lands left my wife during her life or untill my said son becomes of lawful aage and out of the Income of said slaves and land I wish my said son supported and educated I will that my mother Mary Thompson be decently supported out of the profits of the lands and sloves heretofore willed to my wife Judith Thompson. I will to my son John W. Thompson the following property to wit one negro man named Tom, Nancy, Wilson, Eliza, William and James. To my son Creed T Thompson the following slaves to wit, George, Betsey, and her Infant child named Virgin - Mary, Kesiah, Tom son of Tom or little Tom, to my son Anderson Thompson the following slaves viz, San?, Sally, Judy, Talbert, Joe, and Betsy, Sallys child and altho S.o Anderson Thompson is not now of lawful age, I nevertheliss wish him after my death to have Immediate possession of his Negroes to do with them as tho he was of age after the present crops is finished before which time all the Negroes heretofore bequeathed are to stay and remain on the farms and at the places at which they are at present. I have Heretofore given my daughter Eliz th Eubank the following slaves to wit, Letty, Patrick, Maria, and Nelson, I now in additiion thereto give her the lollowing slaves viztUrsela and Jordan. I give to my daughter Mary Shirly in addition to thou heretofore given her whose nanny were Ben, Rachel Henry & ?aabez the following slaves vizt Man cys will I lastly will that all my lands be divided among my foresaid Lecgatees equally unless they choose to unite and sell the same, in which case the proceeds thereof are to be Equally divided among them and to My Brother Bartlett ? Thompson I will one of the Negroes herein willed to my wife after her Death named Hanny on condition that he live & remain with her during her life and attend to her stock & plantation also a horse worth from eighty to one hundred dallars & I wish my son in law Elias M Eubank to have such control over the person of Bartlett T Thompson as to prevent his Inprudently selling or ddisposing of her or her Increase - my wife is to have a sufficient part of the horses and other stock, farming utensils, household furniture and Kitchen furniture & so that she maay not be in want and enable to live and carry on the farm. I revoke all other wills - at the death of my wife Elias M Eubank is to have a Negro man or Boy out of the slaves left her in L??? of a girl provided a girl should fall to him in a division of sale Negroes, should he choose the same untill my son Anderson Thompson arrives of age or gets married I wish him to live and remain with his mother, and assist in attending to the business of the farm & And. for which I wish him to Reserve one hundred dollars pr va? out of the proceeds of her Dower.
