The Rev. Jennings Dotson will officiate. Military honors will be by Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post 6975 of Bristol Tennessee. Mr. Arnold, 82, of 1803 Kentucky Ave., Bristol, Tenn., died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born in Mountain City, Tenn., lived most of his life in the Bristol area and was a retired heavy equipment mechanic. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and of the Baptist faith. Surviving are a daughter, Shelia Blankenbeckler of Bristol Tennessee; a son, Ronald Arnold of Bristol Tennessee; two sisters, Mary Widner of Bristol Tennessee and Edith Calhoun of Delaware; a brother, Elmer Arnold of Bristol Tennessee; and two granddaughters. Among survivors are a son-in-law, Conrad Blankenbeckler of Bristol Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday in Weaver Funeral Home. Edgar Bingham EMORY, Va. -- Dr. Edgar Bingham, 78, died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, in Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport. He was born in Watauga County, N.C., and lived in Emory for the past 46 years. He retired after 36 years as professor of geography at Emory & Henry College and was a teacher and mentor to many students after retirement. He was a published cartographer and a member of Emory & Henry United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Gini Bingham; four sisters, Mona Norris of Winston-Salem, N.C., Faye Burke of Boone, N.C., Addie Scott of West Jefferson, N.C., and Mary Moretz of Clinton, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be conducted Monday in Emory & Henry Chapel by Farris Funeral Service. The Revs. James Bennington and Charles T. Neal and the Rev. Dr. David St. Clair will officiate. Bingham was an avid reader and gardener. Honorary pallbearers will be the active and emeritus faculty of Emory & Henry College. There will be no visitation in Farris Funeral Service. She was a member of the Women's Bowling Association and Monday Night Women's and Thursday Night Mixed Leagues in Wise County. He retired from Tennessee Valley Authority, where he was employed as an iron worker, and was a member of Sunset Village Baptist Church in Bristol Tennessee. He was the widower of Cherry Mae Tucker. She was a 1941 graduate of Temple Hill High School and a retired college professor. She served in 1942-43 as a secretary for the U.S. Civil Service Commission, and in 1944-46 in the U.S. Navy WAVES as a secretary. After teaching for a year at Temple Hill High School in Castlewood, she returned to the U.S. Navy as a secretary until 1952. She worked for the Office of Naval Intelligence for a year and in 1953 was a teacher at Castlewood High School. She attended Appalachian State Teachers College (now Appalachian State University) from 1946-49, earning a bachelor of science degree in business education and social studies. She received her masters degree from ASU in 1956 and completed another year of graduate study at the University of Maryland. In 1956, she was a teacher at Appalachian College of Business and served as a college academic adviser. At Appalachian, she was in the N.C. Business Education Association, N.C. Vocational Association, National Business Education Association and American Vocational Association. She worked with the Educational Development Committee, College of Business Affirmative Action Committee, College of Business Curriculum Committee and College of Business Scholarship Committee. She was on the College of Business Dean's Advisory Council and General College Advisory Service. She retired in 1980 after 24 years of service to the University. She was a member of Fort Gibson United Methodist Church in Castlewood. Norma Jean Yacker JOHNSON CITY -- Norma Jean Yacker, 53, of 126 Lynn Road, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, in Johnson City Medical Center. She was born in Elizabethton, a daughter of Clifford Hamilton of Elizabethton and Helen Startin of Greenwood, S.C. She had lived in Johnson City since 1992. She was an employee in grant accounting at East Tennessee State University and attended First Presbyterian Church in Elizabethton. Surviving, besides her parents, are her husband, Irwin S. Yacker; five daughters, Deena Martin Lemley of Elizabethton, Tammy Quillen of Johnson City, Fawn Yacker of San Francisco, Zodie Powers of Vilas, N.C., and Lolly Winderbaum of Peekskill, N.Y.; her stepfather, Arley Hamilton of Elizabethton; two sisters, Virginia Combs of Greenwood and Rita Presnell of Johnson City; nine grandchildren; and two nieces. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 8 p.m. in Morris-Baker South Chapel. The Rev. John Martin will officiate. Burial will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. in National Cemetery at Mountain Home, Tenn. Those attending should meet at the funeral home by 2 p.m. Friday to proceed to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Don Quillen, Jim Lemley, Ray Powers, Tom Warren, Charles Presnell and Lynn Myers. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in Morris-Baker Funeral Home.
