Sheldon Jones Sr., 81, of 1424 Pinopolis Road, died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, in a North Charleston Hospital. He was born in Liberty, S.C., a son of the late Marlin Washington Jones and Ola Nelson Jones. He lived in Moncks Corner for the past several years. He was a graduate of Liberty High School and Columbia Bible College and attended seminary in Louisville, Ky. He was a former speaker for the Anti-Saloon League of America and director of the Temperance and Evangelistic Crusade of America for many years. He held numerous anti-liquor campaigns and revivals in the U.S. He had the oldest program on WABN Radio, formerly WBBI, in Abingdon and was involved in radio work for 58 years, most recently broadcasting on nine radio stations worldwide. He had been Baptist preacher for 65 years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner. He was former pastor of Mount Olivet Baptist Church of Cross, S.C., First Baptist Church of St. Stephen, S.C.; First Baptist Church of Bonneau, S.C., and Bethel Baptist Church of Bethera, S.C. Most recently, he was interim pastor at Bonneau Beach Baptist Church and director of Triumphant Truth. He was director of Cherokee Publications and author of several books on a variety of subjects. He was an evangelist and the widower of Prue Martin Jones. Surviving are four daughters, Ola J. Thornton of Columbia, S.C., Jacynthia J. Lamb of Brandon, Fla., and Damaris J. Dunlap and Jennifer J. She retired in 1973 after more than 30 years as a nurse supervisor with the Sullivan County Health Department. For several years, she participated in the East Tennessee State University Nursing Program, directing field work in public health in Sullivan County.
