Isaac Aven Broyles TELFORD, Tenn. -- Isaac Aven Broyles, 75, of 104 Broyles Road died Thursday, June 15, 2000, in Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. He was born in Washington County, a son of the late Guy McKinley and Bonnie Seay Bowman Broyles. He was co-owner and operating manager of Broyles & Jenkins Milker Service and operated a dairy farm. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the 295th Ordinance Heavy Maintenance Co. and was a certified electrician and certified small instrument technician. He attended Watchmakers School and was a member of Grace Brethren Church. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Dare Jobe Broyles; a son, Edward Isaac Broyles of Bushnell, Fla.; two daughters, Sandra Lou B. Walker Sehlhorst of Blountville and Judi Lynne B. Beard of Telford; a granddaughter; three step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A lifelong resident of Wise County, he was formerly employed by Dixiana and Old Ben Coal Co. for 27 years. He retired as a general mine foreman. He was a member of Esserville Freewill Baptist Church, Hoge Masonic Lodge 8 AF&AM in Wise and Suthers Lodge 259 in Norton. Surviving are a son, Robert E. "Bobby" Kilgore of Norton; a daughter, Stacy Laney of Coeburn; a sister, Ada Fortner of Bristol Virginia; three brothers, Shady Kilgore of Norton and Dewey Kilgore and Thurman Kilgore, both of Wise; a granddaughter; three grandsons; a great-granddaughter; and a great-grandson. He had a Gold Card signed by the Grand Master and the Grand Lecturer of the Grand Lodge of Virginia. This Gold Card stated that he knew all the rituals of the Blue Lodge. He served four terms as High Priest of Craig Royal Arch Chapter 30 in Norton and one term as District Deputy Grand High Priest. He was a representative of Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Virginia and to the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Oregon. He was an honorary member of Thrice Illustrious Master in the Grand Council at Richmond. He was an honorary member of Grand Council of Annointed High Priest in Virginia. He served as Commander of Cyrene Commandery 21, Knights Templar in Norton and as District Deputy Grand Commander. He served as Worthy Patron for the Lonesome Pine Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star 134 in Norton. He put to memory approximately 100,000 words. He was a member of Kazim Temple in Roanoke, Consistory as a 32nd Degree Mason, 48th Masonic District Master Masons Association, Allied Masonic Degree Council 88 in Norton, honorary member of National Association Legion of Honor, Kazim Temple and Wise County Shrine Club in Wise. He was awarded a Certificate of Proficiency for his proficiency in the Ritual of all the degrees in Royal Arch Masonry by the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons in Virginia. John W. Ruby Anderson Reynolds Ruby Anderson Reynolds died Thursday, June 15, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol. She was born in Memphis, a daughter of the late Frazier Albert and Mary Cleopatra Jeffrey Anderson, and moved to Bristol in 1925. She was the widow of Arthur E. "Dick" Reynolds. She was a life member of the Bristol Tennessee//Virginia YWCA, where she held all offices on the Executive Board and served as president for three terms. She was a life member of the National Federation of Music Clubs, where she served in many offices since 1930 and was a recipient of the Rose Ray Thomas Fellow Medallion. She served as president of the Virginia Federation of Music Clubs and served in all offices on their Executive Board. She served in all offices of the Executive Board of the Bristol Music Club and as president for three terms. She was past president of the Bristol Historical Association and the Sullivan County Historical Association. She was founder of the New Era Study Club of Bristol. And she was a Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts leader, serving on the local and district boards. Mrs. Anderson was a home nursing instructor for the American Red Cross, a member of Tennessee High School Band Boosters and past president of the PTA. She was a member of Phi Beta Music Fraternity-Sigma Phi, was church organist for 18 years at various churches and was a member and church organist at State Street United Methodist Church. She was past president of Tennessee Ornithology Society. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann Sheppard of Monroe, N.C.; a son, Arthur E. He was born in Patrick County, Va., a son of Beulah Wood Vipperman of Stuart, Va., and the late Elder James M. Vipperman. He moved to Bristol from Salem, Va., three years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran, retired in 1995 from the Roanoke Virginia Sheriff's Department as a deputy, and he and his wife were owners//operators with Roberts Express for four and a half years. He was the founding pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Salem and was a member of Central Baptist Church in Bristol Virginia. Surviving, besides his mother, are his wife of 47 years, Josephine Bower Vipperman; two daughters, Karen V. Almany of Bristol Virginia and Patricia V. Bradford of Salem; a brother, Coy Vipperman of Vesta, Va.; a sister, Ruth Vaughn of Stuart; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. June 17, 2000 Ray Bishop DUFFIELD, Va. -- Ray Bishop, 98, died Thursday, June 15, 2000, in Ridge Crest Manor Nursing Home in Duffield. A lifelong resident of the Jasper Community, he was a son of the late Maggie and Thurman Bishop. He was a farmer and a former U.S. Forest Service employee. He was the widower of his first wife, Maude Fritz Bishop, and his second wife, Emma Sturgill Bishop. She served as president of the Virginia Federation of Music Clubs and served in all offices on their Executive Board. While there she received the Nancy Hoback Milne Citation and Medallion for outstanding work in the field of music. She served in all offices of the Executive Board of the Bristol Music Club and as president for three terms. She was past president of the Bristol Historical Association and the Sullivan County Historical Association. She was founder of the New Era Study Club of Bristol. And she was a Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts leader, serving on the local and district boards. Mrs. Reynolds was a home nursing instructor for the American Red Cross, a member of Tennessee High School Band Boosters and past president of the PTA. She was a member of Phi Beta Music Fraternity-Sigma Phi. She was church organist for 18 years at various churches and was a member and church organist at State Street United Methodist Church. She was past president of Tennessee Ornithology Society. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann Sheppard of Monroe, N.C.; a son, Arthur E. He was an honorary member of Grand Council of Annointed High Priest in Virginia. He served as Commander of Cyrene Commandery 21, Knights Templar in Norton and as District Deputy Grand Commander. He served as Worthy Patron for the Lonesome Pine Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star 134 in Norton. He put to memory approximately 100,000 words. He was a member of Kazim Temple in Roanoke, Consistory as a 32nd Degree Mason, 48th Masonic District Master Masons Association, Allied Masonic Degree Council 88 in Norton, honorary member of National Association Legion of Honor, Kazim Temple and Wise County Shrine Club in Wise. He was awarded a Certificate of Proficiency for his proficiency in the Ritual of all the degrees in Royal Arch Masonry by the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons in Virginia. John W. She was a life member of the Bristol Tennessee//Virginia YWCA, where she held all offices on the Executive Board and served as president for three terms. She was a life member of the National Federation of Music Clubs, where she served in many offices since 1930 and was a recipient of the Rose Ray Thomas Fellow Medallion. She served as president of the Virginia Federation of Music Clubs and served in all offices on their Executive Board. She served in all offices of the Executive Board of the Bristol Music Club and as president for three terms. She was past president of the Bristol Historical Association and the Sullivan County Historical Association. She was founder of the New Era Study Club of Bristol. And she was a Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts leader, serving on the local and district boards. Mrs. Anderson was a home nursing instructor for the American Red Cross, a member of Tennessee High School Band Boosters and past president of the PTA. She was a member of Phi Beta Music Fraternity-Sigma Phi, was church organist for 18 years at various churches and was a member and church organist at State Street United Methodist Church. He was the founding pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Salem and was a member of Central Baptist Church in Bristol Virginia. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Alta Marie McGlothlin Shelton; a son, Ralph McKinley Shelton of Richlands; three daughters, Mrs. Jess (Donna) Lambert of Greensboro, N.C., Mrs. Dempsey (Christine) Street of Rowe, Va., and Mrs. Carl (Margaret) Blankenship of Richlands; three sisters, Francis Cordle and Beulah Shelton, both of Richlands, and Charlene Houchins of Cleveland, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff. The Revs. Leon O'Quinn and Tim Lester will officiate. Burial will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Mr. Shelton was also preceded in death by two sons; a great-granddaughter, Angel; three brothers; and four sisters. Sword POUNDING MILL, Va. -- Hallie Gray Brown Sword, 84, died Sunday, June 18, 2000, in a Tazewell nursing home. She was born in Tazewell County, Va., a daughter of the late Joe and Margaret Herald Brown, both Tazewell County natives, and had made her home in the Tazewell County area all of her life. She was a homemaker and the widow of Claude E. Sword. Surviving are three daughters, Wanda Gray S. Cox of Richlands, Janice Carol S. Rajewski of Chicago and Hallie Claudine S. Rambo of South Boston, Va.; a son, Edward Harrison Sword of Pounding Mill; two sisters, Ida Woods of Tazewell and Marie Bowles of Greensboro, N.C.; a brother, Joe Brown of Tazewell; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands. The Rev. Alvin Holmes will officiate. Rebekah LeAnne Wells NORTON -- Rebekah LeAnne Wells, 16, died Sunday, June 18, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital in Norton. She was a daughter of Chico and Becky Stidham Wells of Norton, and was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Coeburn. Surviving, besides her parents, are a brother, Abe Wells II of the home; maternal grandfather, Bill Stidham of Norton; and paternal grandmother, Flora Shortt Wells of Norton. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Grand Avenue Church of God of Prophecy in Coeburn by Sturgill Funeral Home of Wise. Burial will be in the American Legion Cemetery in Big Stone Gap, Va. Miss Wells was preceded in death by maternal grandmother, Dorothy Stidham; and paternal grandfather, Abe Wells. The Revs. Lester Sexton and Paul Price will officiate. Burial will be in White Family Cemetery in Poor Valley, Washington County. Mr. White, 43, of Route 2, died Sunday, June 18, 2000, at his home. A lifelong resident of Russell County, he was the son of Lucille White of Abingdon, and a carpenter and farmer in the Flats Community in Russell County. Surviving, besides his mother, are his wife, Evelyn C. White; four daughters, Melanie Combs of Lebanon, Angela Helton of Rosedale, Va., and Jennifer White and Carla White, both of the home; a son, Danny Bell of Lebanon; three sisters, Elsia Taylor of Castlewood and Vickie Wampler and Pam White, both of Abingdon; two brothers, Billy Lee White and Walter Wayne White, both of Abingdon; grandmother, Elsie Statzer White of Lebanon; and three grandsons. Among survivors are grandsons Brandon Combs, Jeremy Powers and Ethan Helton. Pallbearers will be Don Hughes, Brian Castle, Tim Buckner, Tony Stover, Shannon Willis and Ronnie Gilbert.
