Bolling, 88, of 33 Lincoln Road, Bristol, Va., died Saturday, June 10, 2000, in Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands. He was born in Wise County and had lived in Bristol since 1966. He was a retired employee of the Virginia ABC Board and was one of the original employees when the Board was founded in 1934. He retired from the Board in 1975 with 41 years of service. He was a member of Pound Virginia Masonic Lodge 59, AF&AM and Modern Woodmen of America and was of the Methodist faith. Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Robert (Lois Jean) Shepherd of Richlands; three brothers, Paul Bolling of Pound, Darrell Bolling of Gate City, Va., and Chester Bolling of Castlewood; two sisters, Thelma Shortt of Pound and Betty Brown of Caledonia, Canada. Cross died Thursday, June 8, 2000, in Greystone Health Care in Blountville. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee, where he was past president of the Vocational Agriculture Club. He taught school for several years in the Sullivan County School System and served five years in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a 4-H Club leader and past president of the Piney Flats Ruritan Club. He served on the executive board of UETHD and served 72,000 hours of volunteer service at the Fort Howard Veterans Hospital in Baltimore. He was a president of the Piney Flats Senior Citizens for many years and retired from Bethlehem Steel in 1972. He was a member of Poplar Ridge Christian Church. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. In accordance with Mr. Cross' wishes, there will be no service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, stationed in Stuttgart, Germany with the Persing Missile Unit, and was a member of John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion. He attained the rank of staff sergeant and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was of the Pentecostal faith. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the American Legion and the American Association of Retired Persons. Surviving, besides his mother, are his wife, Edith Lucille Adams; a daughter, Cindy Adams of Bristol Tennessee; three sons, Larry A. Adams and Jeffrey D. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a 4-H Club leader and past president of the Piney Flats Ruritan Club. He served on the executive board of UETHD and served 72,000 hours of volunteer service at the Fort Howard Veterans Hospital in Baltimore. He was born in Richlands, a son of the late Hugh Augusta and Tina Johnson Reynolds, both Richlands natives, and was a lifelong resident of the Richlands area. He was a 1948 graduate of Richlands High School. He was a retired brakeman for Norfolk and Southern Railway with 37 years of service, a member of the No. 530 UTU Norfolk-Southern Railway Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen and a member of Cedar Bluff Lodge 260 AF&AM. He was of the Methodist faith and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Jean McGee Reynolds; a son, Brent Reynolds of Claypool Hill, Va.; two sisters, Maude Boyd of Raven, Va. and Mary Steele of Wheelsburg, Ohio; a brother, George Reynolds of Richlands; and a grandson. He was a teacher and coach at Wythe High School in Wytheville and a member of the local Ironworkers Union in Roanoke. He taught adult education classes in Gadsden, Ala., and moved to Kingman, Ariz., in 1983, where he was a teaching assistant and substitute teacher for the Kingman Elementary School District. He worked in the tourist information office of the Kingman Area Chamber of Commerce and helped organize the Kingman Multiple Sclerosis Group. He was a representative of Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Virginia and to the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Oregon. He was an honorary member of Thrice Illustrious Master in the Grand Council at Richmond. He was an honorary member of Grand Council of Annointed High Priest in Virginia. He served as Commander of Cyrene Commandery 21, Knights Templar in Norton and as District Deputy Grand Commander. He served as Worthy Patron for the Lonesome Pine Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star 134 in Norton. He put to memory approximately 100,000 words. He was a member of Kazim Temple in Roanoke, Consistory as a 32nd Degree Mason, 48th Masonic District Master Masons Association, Allied Masonic Degree Council 88 in Norton, honorary member of National Association Legion of Honor, Kazim Temple and Wise County Shrine Club in Wise. He was awarded a Certificate of Proficiency for his proficiency in the Ritual of all the degrees in Royal Arch Masonry by the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons in Virginia. John W. Laningham appointed him as his representative in our area for the Kazim Temple.
