"Pat" Callahan. She was a former employee of Blue Ridge Shoe Co., president of the Shady Valley Home Demonstration Club and a member of Shady Valley Church of Christ. Surviving are a daughter, Patricia C. Honaker of Shady Valley; two brothers, Raleigh McQueen of Atlanta and Reford McQueen of Shady Valley; two sisters, Lois Walker of Shady Valley and Okie Greer of Johnson City; two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. Flanary, 94, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, in Bristol Nursing Home in Bristol Virginia. She was born and raised in Scott County, a daughter of the late Bradley and Rebecca Tomlinson. He had lived in Duffield most of her life. She was a retired school teacher from the Scott County School System, teaching for 38 years. She attended Kaylors Chapel Baptist Church, where she served as pianist for several years. She was the widow of Roy N. Flanary. Surviving are a daughter, Linda F. Watson of Bristol Virginia; four grandchildren, Sabrina Hogan of Lexington, S.C., and Billy W. Rhoton, James A. Rhoton and Bradley E. Watson, all of Bristol Virginia; and three great-grandchildren, Devyn Hogan and Kevin Hogan, both of Lexington, and Sydney Rhoton of Bristol Virginia. Kennedy MESA, Ariz. -- A private graveside service was held for Mrs. Ruth Childress Kennedy on Friday, May 12, 2000, in Glenwood Cemetery. The service was led by her sons, Joe and Ken Kennedy, at her request. Mrs. Kennedy died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, in Mesa. She was born in Teas, Va. She was a longtime resident of Bristol Tennessee and the widow of James H. Kennedy, her husband for 55 years. Surviving are her children, Dr. Joseph T. Kennedy of Gadsden, Ala., attorney Kenneth W. Kennedy of Knoxville and Peggy K. Winchester of Galveston; grandchildren Karen Kennedy Jolles, Tom Kennedy of Chickamauga, Ga., Jimmy Kennedy of Gadsden, John Kennedy of Huntsville, Ala., Randy Kennedy and Andy Kennedy, both of Bristol Tennessee, Milissa Kennedy Woodruff of Knoxville, Meg Wincheser of San Diego, Calif., and Becki Winchester Habib of Galveston; great-grandchildren Joseph and Matthew Kennedy, both of Georgia, Laura and Leslie Kennedy and Holly and Melody Kennedy, all of Alabama, Kaylan and Drew Kennedy and Matthew S. Mrs. Kennedy was a beloved mother and was known to her loving grandchildren as Nana and to her loving great-grandchildren as GiGi. She traveled extensively and divided her time between her home in Galveston and Mesa, where she lived with her sister, Madeline Warren Mecier. Mom Ruth modeled her Christian virtues to all who knew her. She was a woman whose thoughts always were of family and friends. She taught in Europe for three years and was a graduate of East Tennessee State University with a bachelor's degree. She received her master's of education from Union College in Barbourville, Ky. She retired after teaching over 37 years in the Sullivan County School System, the last 18 years at Sullivan East High School. She was the widow of retired Air Force Maj. Donald F. He was manager of Kelly & Green on State Street in Bristol, Va., before moving to Kingsport in 1973, where he became a real estate broker and owner of a real estate agency. She was born in Homestead, Pa., a daughter of the late Martha and Thomas Wilson, and moved to the Bristol area in 1959 and to Hampton in 1980. She was the widow of E. Earl Hoffman and a member of First Church of the Brethern in Bristol Tennessee. She was a lifelong homemaker and served as a Head Start volunteer for many years. Surviving are two daughters, Lois H. Wallace of Blountville and Wilma H. Turner of Sanford, N.C.; a son, David E. Hoffman of Hampton; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; a niece; and a nephew. He served as chaplain of the Bristol Regional Medical Center and participated in the Inner City Ministries, Boy Scouts of America and the Lions Club. He retired from the Holston Methodist Conference in l998 after 35 years in the ministry. He had been a resident of Buchanan County for several years, and he was a member of Bethany Bible Church. He was a retired coal miner and merchant. Surviving are his wife, Ola K.
