Born in Dante, Va., he was the son of the late George H. and Cora Holley Adams. He was a civil engineer and worked for the C & O Railroad, now CSX Railroad, and was also a former teacher at Richlands High School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Adams and Wade Adams; and three sisters, Betty Bowling, Helen Hudleston and Virginia Littlejohn. He is survived by his wife, Helen McGlothlin Adams; two sons, Gene Adams and wife, Zella, of Baltimore, and Michael K. Adams and wife, Peggy, of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Phyllis Gist of California, and Mrs. Marie Broyle of Erwin, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Mathew Adams, Samuel Adams, Jim Adams, Katie Adams and Benjamin Adams. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Singleton Funeral Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Rev. Joe Copolo and Rev. Bob Holland officiating. Crystal Adkins COEBURN -- Crystal Adkins, 68, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Norton Community Hospital in Norton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy; father, Kelly Mitchell Harvey; a son, Joseph "Fuzzy" Adkins; two sisters, Odra Belle Harvey and Della Harvey; a brother, Clayton Harvey; and two granddaughters, Cynthia Marie Adkins and Catine Louise Adkins. Tobe Damon Blair BALTIMORE -- Tobe Damon Blair, 70, died Dec. 26, 2000, at the home of a daughter and son-in-law in Littletown, Pa. He was born and raised in Bristol, Va., a son of the late James M. Blair and Myrtle Henson Blair of Bristol, Va., and moved to Baltimore in the early 50s. He retired from Bausch and Lomb five years ago and went to make his home with a daughter in Littletown. He was a member of Woodbrook Baptist Church in Baltimore for 41 years and made his home in Baltimore before retirement. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene McCoy Blair; one brother, W.C. Blair; two sisters, Lucille B. Mabe and Lula Mae Blair Whitaker. Surviving are four daughters, Olla Mitchem of Littletown, and Debbie, Connie and Teresa of Tennessee; two sons, J.W. Cullop, 71, of 1226 South Shady Ave. died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. He was born in West Virginia and had lived in Washington County, Va., most of his life. He was the son of the late Frank and Margaret Parker Cullop. Mr. Cullop was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, a member of the Damascus Senior Citizens and of the Protestant faith. He was the son of the late William B. and Ella Mae Litton Nunn. He had served in the U.S. Marines Corps for seven years and had worked for the Bristol Tennessee Police Department in the 1950's. He was a former agent with the A.B.C. service for four years. He re-enlisted in the U.S. Navy and retired as a CEC with 33 years of service. Mr. Nunn was a former member of the Bristol Elks Lodge 232. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Rosita S. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Rose; her stepfather, Charlie Rose; brother, Brady Lankford; and a nephews, James B. Lankford. She was formerly employed by Bristol Memorial Hospital. He was a retired employee of Univac, a member of the Moose Lodge since 1949, and a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II and the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret O. He and his wife had attended the First Baptist Church of Memphis for over 40 years. Mr. Maiden was a U.S. Navy veteran serving as lieutenant during World War II and was an avid golfer. He was retired as the district supervisor with the S.H. Kress Company. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George A. Maiden and Roger E. Maiden. Karen is survived by her loving and faithful husband, Michael; two beautiful boys, Devin and Ethan; her parents, Robert P. and Mary B. Consoli of Townsend, Tenn., and St. Petersburg, Fla.; her brothers, Richard, Robert and Michael; Michael's parents, David L. and Laurel J. Harris, also reside in Kingsport. Karen was born in Andover, Mass., on June 8, 1962. After attending St. Petersburg Catholic High School, she went on to earn her bachelor of science degree from North Carolina Wesleyan College, attended Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University and received her masters degree in political science from Auburn University in 1990. Prior to her marriage to Michael Harris on Aug. 22, 1992, Karen was the director of the Appalachian Project with Industry in Johnson City, Tenn., and after her diagnosis, she was named an honorary lifetime member of the Johnson City Junior League. Aside from her passion of helping others achieve their dreams, Karen had a passion for "running the race" and she completed the New York City Marathon in 1987 and 1990. Karen will always be remembered as a loving, caring and gifted wife, mother, sister and daughter. We are grateful for the many lives that she touched as a result of her incredible courage, determination, faith and positive attitude which she so lovingly shared with all who were fortunate to know her. She was a beloved member and pianist of the Tiller Town Free Will Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Tiller Town Free Will Baptist Church Ladies Club and helped with the Young Peoples Organization at the church. She was a devoted daughter who cared for her own parents in their geriatric elderly years while employed as a supervisor with the Inter-Mountain Telephone Company in Bristol. She married the late Reverend William Novak in 1958, with whom she served as a teacher in Christian education in the Protestant ministry for 40 years. During this time she also served as superintendent, as well as other leadership positions, of the Women's Missionary Union of Lebanon Association for 12 years. She also was self-employed in cosmetology. A virtuous woman (Proverbs 31) who served as prayerful inspiration and hands-on assistance to those in need.
