Lois Osborne Buchanan CASTLEWOOD, Va. -- Lois Osborne Buchanan, 69, passed away Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in Bristol's Wellmont Hospice House in Tennessee. She was in Dante, Va., the daughter of the late Tom and Maggie Holmes Osborne. Mrs. Buchanan was a registered nurse, retired from the Dante Clinic and the Hanging Rock Clinic after 25 years service. She was a graduate from Johnston Memorial Hospital Nursing School in Abingdon, Va., and attended First Baptist Church in St. Paul, Va. Lois is survived by her husband, Joe Buchanan; three brothers, Ford Osborne and Elmer Osborne, both of St. Paul, and Howard Osborne of Abingdon; special friends, Elmer and June Osborne of Castlewood; and several nieces and nephews. Cowan III KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Taylor O. Cowan III, 57, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at St. Mary's Residential Hospice Center. He was born in Bristol, a son of Taylor O. Cowan Jr. of Bristol and the late Louise Stinette Cowan. He was a Vietnam War veteran and a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Business Administration. He was an avid hiker and was a member of the Smokey Mountain Hiking Club and the Knoxville Track Club. He was co-owner of BP Express Intermodal Carrier and Tri-City Trucking. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Caroline Ketron Cowan; a daughter, C. Kristin Cowan of Knoxville; a son, T. Chad Cowan of Knoxville; and several cousins. The family wishes to thank two oncologist cousins, Dr. John Cowan of Rockford and Dr. Ben Cowan Jr. of Bristol, for their special support and care during the illness. He was born in Bandy, a son of the late Jake Lawrence and Uva Connor Harrison, both Tazewell County natives. He was a 1950 graduate of Richlands High School, a retired 31-year employee of Ford Motor Company in Brookpark, Ohio, and was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 1250 in Brookpark. He had made his home in the Bandy area the past 17 years and was a member of the Bandy Assembly of God Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Vialisa Ruth Harrison, and twin brother, Joseph Blair Harrison, and several infant siblings. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survivors, in addition to his cousins, are a host of friends and members of the Bandy Assembly of God Church family. She moved to the Great Lakes-Gurnee area in 1999 following the retirement of her husband from the United States Navy in Corpus Christi, Texas. Mrs. Evans, a Vietnam-era veteran herself, served in the United States Navy, enlisting July 24, 1970, and served for 20 years. She retired June 20, 1990, at Naval Station Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, as a first class petty officer. Following her retirement, she served as ombudsman to commanding officer, USS Scott (Norfolk, Va.) and to commander, mine warfare command (Corpus Christi, Texas). For her dedicated service to the nation, the United States Navy, her husband and the people of Texas, she was commissioned on Oct. 1, 1998, as a "Yellow Rose of Texas" by then-Gov. George W. Bush. Mrs. Evans was employed as a facilitator and office assistant for the PREVENT program at the Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, and was pursing her master's degree in psychology from National-Louis University. Keith Wilson Jr. JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- Keith Wilson Jr., 30, died Sunday night, Feb. 25, 2001, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Keith was a graduate of Tennessee High School. He served in the U.S. Army in the Gulf War and was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda M. Wilson; and grandparents, Pearl and Helen Wilson and Bill and Evelyn Miller. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Dr. Earl K. and Peggy Lavinder Wilson, Bristol, Tenn.; one brother, Ryan P. Wilson, Bristol, Tenn.; one sister, Amanda M. Wilson, Bristol, Tenn.; one stepbrother, Matthew Lavinder, Bristol, Tenn.; one stepsister, Annie Lavinder, Bristol, Tenn.; grandmother, Eula Wilson, Tazewell, Va.; several loving aunts and uncles; and many very close and supportive friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at St. Anne's Catholic Church. Father Thomas A. Ianucci will officiate. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
