Cooper, 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Margaret R. Pardee Hospital after a brief illness. He was a native of Norwalk, Conn., and was a prior resident of Bristol, Virginia-Tennessee, before moving to Henderson County 15 years ago. He was a son of the late Anne Kramer Hagstrom and stepfather, A.O. Hagstrom. He was the husband of the late Phebe May Cooper who had passed away in 1994. He was employed by Raytheon as a production control manager before retiring in 1974. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hendersonville as well as the church in Bristol, Tenn. He had attended Fletcher Seventh-day Adventist Church with his wife of four years, Annette P. Cooper. He was a lifetime member and past exulted ruler of the Elks Lodge in Bristol, Tenn., past president of Civitan and had also volunteered for Park Ridge Hospital in Fletcher, N.C. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one son, Robert Cooper of Spring Lake, N.C.; one daughter, Carol B. McGuire of Etowah, N.C.; one stepson, David Shakey of Asheville, N.C.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was born in Whitewood, Va., and was a daughter of the late Byrd B. and Elizabeth Sparks Cole, both Whitewood natives. She had made her home in the Bristol, Va., area most of her life living in Savannah, Ga., one year and was a longtime real estate manager in eastern Virginia and the Washington, D.C. area. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Mr. Frank Gouge, second husband, Mr. William Delomas, and three sisters, Fannie Grizzle, Verlie McDonald and Mayble Cole. Also, four brothers, Claude and Curt Cole and Marvin and Ervine Sparks. Jamie Frank Justus GRUNDY, Va. -- Jamie Frank Justus, 65, of the Roseann area of Route No. 1, passed away Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Buchanan General Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Boyd Justus and Mary Ramsey Justus Lieby of Dover, Del. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and a member of the Presbyterian church. He attended Hurley High School and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1962 assigned to the 4751st Air Defense Squadron Missile ADC, receiving several medals, including the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. At the time of his separation, he was stationed with the Tachikawa Air Base, Honshu, Japan. He was a member of John Ratliff Post No. 164 of the American Legion. He was a former employee of Pet Milk Company and was chief mechanic for Twinstar Mining Company. Mr. Justus is survived by his wife of 43 years: Judith Fay Howell Justus, Route No. 1, Grundy; three daughters: Virginia Lee Justus Popowicz and husband, Bill Popowicz, Goldsboro, N.C., Teresa Ann Justus and friend, Keith Larsen, Baltimore, Md., and Barbara Sue Justus Carr and husband, Eddie Carr, Las Vegas,. She was born in Mercer County, W.Va., the daughter of Bill and Sarah Tolbert Surber. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie O. Burkett. Mrs. Burkett was a member of the New Cove United Methodist Church in the Rich Valley area of Smyth County, where she taught Sunday School for several years. She attended Shady Grove Methodist Church and Charity Baptist Church after moving to Abingdon. She is remembered by her family and friends as gentle, caring, loving and giving. Lois Grove Davenport ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Mrs. Lois Lee Grove Davenport died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at her home in Ann Arbor. She was born Sept. 12, 1933, in Hiltons, Va., and was the daughter of the late William Ray and Geneva (Bowlin) Grove. She grew up as a resident of Sullivan County and was a graduate of Blountville High School. After graduating from nursing school, Mrs. Davenport lived in Tennessee, Indiana, Alabama and Michigan. Mrs. Davenport was married to Clyde F. Davenport Jr., on Feb. 19, 1954, and he preceded her in death in 1985. She was a member of the First Assembly of God in Chelsea, Mich., where she was the church treasurer. She was a registered nurse at the Ann Arbor Veterans Affairs Hospital for 24 years. Mrs. Davenport was preceded in death by a brother, Foch Grove. Survivors include two sons, Roland Davenport and Allen Davenport, both of Ann Arbor; one daughter-in-law, Valerie Davenport of Ann Arbor; two sisters, Ellen Rudd of Glen Burnie, Md., and Margaret Shuffitt of Dunnellon, Fla.; two brothers, William Frank Grove of Blountville, Tenn., and James A. He was a veteran in World War II and survived the third wave of the Normandy Invasion. A former employee of Tennessee Eastman, he then opened a grocery store, in what was then known as "Long Island." He was an entrepreneur in the Kingsport area in housing, real estate and land development. He was truly loved by family and friends. A grandfather who took his grand boys hunting and fishing was a truly avid sportsman. He was always a friend to those who needed a helping hand. He was a native and lifelong resident of Sullivan County and a farmer. Son of the late Reece B. and Valna H. King Shaver. He attended King College. Mr. Shaver was a member of New Bethel Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Amanda Ruth Carter Shaver, in September; a son, Thomas Reese Shaver; and a brother, Rex Shaver. Survivors include one son, Michael Shaver of Macungie, Pa.; four grandchildren, Stephanie Anne Winters, Wendi L. Shaver, Christoper Reese Shaver and Leslie Anne Shaver; and two great-grandsons, Reece William Winters and Zeb Austin Winters. Also surviving are one niece, Linda Waldron; and one nephew, Larry Shaver. Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in New Hope Baptist Church with Dr. Andrew Spence and Rev. Wolfe, 90, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, in the Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie, Va. She was a native of the Glade Spring area of Washington County, Va., and lived in Marion before moving to Abingdon in 1929. She retired from Johnston Memorial Hospital where she served as associate director of nursing services. She was a member of the Abingdon Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late William Martin Wolfe and the late Sadie Alice Wheeler Wolfe.
