She was born in Dante, Va., the daughter of the late Bud and Margaret Jessee Lewis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Casteel. Ms. Casteel was of the Baptist faith. She is survived by three daughters, Clara Russo of Gainesville, Mo., Janice Lambert of Wellborn, Fla., and Margaret Billmyer of Mt. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and served in World War II and the Korean War and attended the University of Tennessee and King College. Turner, 81, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2001, in the Grace Health Care Center in Abingdon. Born in Russell County, Va., a son of the late Grover Turner and Hattie Ervin Turner. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Walter Turner and an identical twin brother, Dr. Robert W. Turner. Mr. Turner was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church, had attained the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, was a Mason for 56 years and a member of the Hoge Masonic Lodge \8 A.F.& A.M. of Wise, Va. He served with the Virginia Department of Transportation for 43 years. He began his career in 1939 as a rodman on the survey party and over the next 43 years, Mr. Turner advanced through numerous highway assignments before retiring as the district engineer for the twelve-county Bristol Transportation District in 1981. During his time in the Southwest Virginia District, he was involved in numerous highway construction projects including Interstates 81 and 77, and most notably, the mountain tunnels on I-77. Additionally he oversaw construction on major corridors including U.S. Highways 23, 58, 19 and 460 as well as being involved in the construction of a number of primary highways in the coalfields area of the region. In addition to serving as district engineer for the VDOT Bristol District, Mr. Turner held posts as assistant district engineer for both construction and maintenance as well as serving as Abingdon resident engineer for Washington and Smyth Counties, Wise resident engineer for Wise and Dickenson Counties and as assistant Lebanon resident engineer for Russell and Buchanan Counties. He also had assignments in Salem, Suffolk and Tazewell. He is survived by his wife, Mae Hamner Turner; a daughter, Beth Turner of Wilmington, Del.; a sister, Margaret Turner Davis of Holliday, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Theoder (Boob) Johnson Theoder (Boob) Johnson of Bristol, Tenn., died Jan. 18, 2001, in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon. Mr. Johnson was a devoted husband of the late Carrie Bell Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a native of Abingdon. At an early age, his family moved to Bristol, Va., where he attended Ninth Street Presbyterian School and graduated from Douglass High School. He served in the United States Navy and fought in the South Pacific during World War II. Following his honorable discharge from military service, Mr. Johnson returned to Bristol and was employed at Bristol Tennessee Electric Systems after 26 years. He was a dedicated and active member of the John Wesley United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees for over 26 years as treasurer and was a member of the United Methodist Men. John F. Turner ABINGDON -- Mr. John F. Turner, 81, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2001, in the Grace Health Care Center in Abingdon. Born in Russell County, Va., he was a son of the late Grover Turner and Hattie Ervin Turner. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Walter Turner and an identical twin brother, Dr. Robert W. Turner. Mr. Turner was a member of Abingdon United Methodist Church, had attained the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, was a Mason for 56 years and a member of the Hoge Masonic Lodge No. 8 A.F.& A.M. of Wise. He served with the Virginia Department of Transportation for 43 years. He began his career in 1939 as a rodman on the survey party and during the next 43 years, Mr. Turner advanced through numerous highway assignments, before retiring as the district engineer for the 12-county Bristol Transportation District in 1981. During his time in the Southwest Virginia District, he was involved in numerous highway construction projects including Interstates 81 and 77, and most notably, the mountain tunnels on I-77. Additionally, he oversaw construction on major corridors including U.S. Highways 23, 58, 19 and 460 as well as being involved in the construction of a number of primary highways in the coalfields area of the region. In addition to serving as district engineer for the VDOT Bristol District, Mr. Turner held posts as assistant district engineer for both construction and maintenance as well as serving as Abingdon resident engineer for Washington and Smyth counties, Wise resident engineer for Wise and Dickenson counties and as assistant Lebanon resident engineer for Russell and Buchanan counties. He also had assignments in Salem, Suffolk and Tazewell. He is survived by his wife, Mae Hamner Turner; a daughter, Beth Turner of Wilmington, Del.; a sister, Margaret Turner Davis of Holliday, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Betty Reiff officiating.
