Shirley Wayne Vestal Burke Shirley Wayne Vestal Burke, 65, 915 Clark St., Bristol, Va., died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Wellmont Hospice House. She was the daughter of the late Carl and Hessie Roark Vestal, a lifelong resident of the Bristol area, and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was of the Baptist faith and the widow of Charles E. Burke Sr. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and David Daugherty, Lisa and Ernie Crowe and Connie and Roy Baumgardner; two sisters, Louise Gardner and Charlotte Rouse; two brothers, James "Bill" Vestal and Allen Vestal; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Harry Henry Hensley WISE, Va. -- Harry Henry Hensley, 79, passed away Sunday, Dec 31, 2000, at Norton Community Hospital, Norton, Va. He was a member and past president of the Norton Lions Club, member of Suther's Masonic Lodge 259, A.F. & A.M., member of the Beaver Dam Hunting Club and member of the Freedom of Worship Church. He was a 1942 graduate of Norton High School, played professional baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1942, before he was drafted in the U.S. Army, played semi-professional baseball for Dorchester Coal and Coke Co. from 1946-49, and was a retired employee of Old Dominion Power Co. with 31 years of service. He served from 1942-46 in the U.S. Army, 84th Infantry, Headquarter Battalion, 333rd Regiment as platoon sergeant T//Sgt. and was a member of the Railsplitter Society. He served in the Battles of the Ardennes, The Rhineland, Central Europe, the Bulge and ended at the River Ebbe. He married Mabel Geneva Kaylor on Feb. 15, 1946, and was preceded in death by her on June 19, 2000, and was preceded in death by a son, Harry Steven Hensley, Jan. 25, 1999. Surviving are two sons, Walter C. "Rusty" and wife Frankie Hensley, Wise, Va., and John Michael and wife Angie Hensley, Elijay, Ga.; five granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; and one great-grandson. She was born on Sept. 10, 1905, in Cabin Creek, West Virginia, to Frank Rhinehard and Maria Rankin Clark. Upon finishing high school, she attended Reno Hall Business School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and graduated with honors on Aug. 31, 1926. In 1927, she became county clerk of the Dickenson County, Virginia School Board and held this position for 13 years. At the beginning of World War II, she served as clerk in the Selective Service in Dickenson County for two years. In 1942, she received a call from Washington to work for the federal government. Upon arriving in Washington, she was assigned a position in the Office of the Judge Advocate General of the Army. She retired in 1955 after 16 years of service in this position. She was a member of the Pleasant View United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Clyde W. Remines. She is survived by: four nieces: Elizabeth Shepard, Franklin, Tenn., Louise Harless, Charlton Heights, W.Va., Marie Bowling, Norton, Va., and Aliceon Akers, Roanoke, Va.; three nephews: Frank C. Clintwood Funeral Home, Clintwood, is in charge of the arrangements. Noah Rosenbalm Noah Rosenbalm, 89, of 2623 Weaver Pike, Bristol, Tenn., died on Jan. 3, 2001, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and had retired from Weaver Elementary School, where he served as a custodian. Mr. Rosenbalm also worked as a farmer and was the son of the late Andrew and Virginia Phillips Rosenbalm. Survivors include: wife, Goldie Vance Rosenbalm; sons, Henry Rosenbaum of Booneville, Ark., Willie Rosenbaum of Blountville, Tenn., Gary Rosenbaum of Bristol, Tenn., and Harry Rosenbaum of Bristol, Tenn.; daughters, Mary Jane Cook of Bristol, Tenn., Hattie Goodell of Bristol, Tenn., Eva Marshall of Bristol, Va., Joyce Harrison of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Phyllis Leonard of Bluff City, Tenn.; sister: Elsie Potter of Bluff City; 25 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Lou Rosenbalm. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 2 p.m. in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Freddie Miller officiating. (Eddie) Statzer, 68, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2001, at his home. Farris Funeral Service is serving the Statzer family. Arrangements are incomplete. Cleo A. Harrison Wallace Cleo A. Harrison Wallace, 82, of 1030 Maryland Ave., Bristol, Tenn., passed away at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Russell County, Va., she had resided in Bristol most of her life. Mrs. Wallace was a daughter of the late George Walter and Mamie Robinson Harrison. She had been employed at Westbury Fashions as a seamstress. Mrs. Wallace was a member of the Beulah Land Baptist Church and a member of the Ladies Garment Workers Union. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Harrison, Eva Carroll and Sadie Page; and by two brothers, Bill Harrison and Andrew "Dick" Harrison. Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Donald Wallace of the home; one stepdaughter, Vickie Tranhan of Midwest City, Okla.; one stepson, Franklin Wallace of Miami Beach, Fla.; one sister, Tiny McCloud of Baltimore, Md.; two step-grandsons, Aaron and Nicholas Tranhan; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Beulah Land Baptist Church with Pastor Edward Swartz, Pastor Claude Pennington and Pastor David Wilson officiating. Entombment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Mike Campbell, Mark Campbell, Robbie Shields, Ray Wilson, Richard Stapleton and Rick Privette. Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Moretz and Alvin Tallman. Family will receive friends at the church from 6-8 p.m. Friday and at other hours at the residence.
