Mr. Bryant was a native of Middlesboro, Ky., and had lived in the Bristol area most of his life. He was a retired carpenter and was preceded in death by his wife, Mollie Louise Moore Bryant. Survivors include four daughters, Marie Hicks, Barbara Roark, Janie Pieper and Gail Self; one son, Joe Bryant; two sisters, Minnie Lee Beeler and Juanita Johnson; three brothers, Raymond Bryant, Earl Bryant and Mel Bryant; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters. Dr. Stamper was a native of Pennington Gap, Va., born Jan., 11, 1917, to the late Charles T. and Mary Elizabeth Shelburne Stamper. He was married to Mary L. Woodward on May 30, 1947. She preceded him in death in 1994. During World War II, Shelburne served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, European Theatre, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He received his bachelor's degree from Lincoln Memorial University, his master of arts from Columbia University and his doctorate of education from Indiana University. Magdlean Stamper MARION, Va. -- Magdlean Stamper, 86, passed away at the home of her daughter on Saturday, March 3, 2001. She was the widow of Rev. Lewis Stamper. Mrs. Stamper was born in Ashe County, N.C., and grew up in Grayson County. She was a devout Christian, a member of the Valley View Baptist Church and a loving mother and grandmother. She joined her husband, Lewis Stamper; and son, William (Bill) Stamper in heaven. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Dean Tucker of Marion; and one daughter-in-law, Nancy Stamper of Atlanta. Grandchildren surviving are Greg Tucker and wife Kathy of Meadowview, Rebecca Harrington and husband Danny of Saltville, Ed, Bonney, Richard and John Stamper, all of the Atlanta area; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, March 6, at 2 p.m. in Valley View Baptist Church in the Teas community of Sugar Grove with Rev. Roger Frost, Rev. Fred Jennings and Larry Smith officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 7-9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Funeral Home. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service is serving the Stamper Family. Worley Ward Worley Daniel Ward, of Bristol, Va., passed away Saturday, March 3, 2001, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Worley attended Dobyns-Bennett High School where he was a member of the 1963 All-State Basketball Tournament Team and was named High School All-American. He went on to play basketball and graduated from Massanutten Military School in 1964. After high school, he played basketball at North Carolina State University for two years before transferring to ETSU. While at ETSU, he was a starter on the 1968 NCAA "Sweet 16 Team" and the Ohio Valley Conference championship team before graduating in 1969 with a degree in health and physical education. He went on to coach basketball at Elizabethton, Rogersville High School, Blountville Middle School and King High School in Tampa, Fla., from 1975-78. He then discontinued teaching//coaching and went to work for PaineWebber in Tampa as a stock broker. In January of 2000, he retired on disability from the Bristol, Tennessee office of PaineWebber, where he was the branch manager. Worley was preceded in death by his father, Emmett Ward; and a niece, Heather Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of nine years, Mrs. Susan Stutler Ward of the home; three daughters, Ms. Vicki Linne Ward and Mrs. Brooke Ward Robbins, both of Kingsport, and Mrs. Angie Ward Gleaves of Nashville; seven grandchildren, Samuel Ward, Jonathan Ward, Justin Robbins and Brett Robbins, all of Kingport, Macie Gleaves, Conner Gleaves and Chaz Gleaves, all of Nashville; his mother, Mrs. Stella Ward of Kingsport, and a sister, Pat and brother-in-law, Keith Smith; one nephew, Daren Smith; and one niece, Mrs. Dudley Smith Miller. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Frank Crawford officiating. Richard Arnold, from Rogersville, will give a eulogy. There will be a one-hour visitation following the memorial service. East Lawn is serving the Ward family. Violet Baldwin Weaver LEBANON, Va. -- Funeral services for Violet Baldwin Weaver will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the Boone Family Funeral Service Chapel in West Jefferson, N.C., with Elder Eddie Lyalls officiating. Burial will follow in the William D. Baldwin Cemetery, Whitetop, Va. Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Weaver, 95, died Friday, March 2, 2001, in Maple Grove Health Care Center in Lebanon. Combs Funeral Service is serving the family of Mrs. Weaver with local arrangements.
