She was born in Big Moccasin, Va., a daughter of the late Jonathan and Cynthia Bradley Wood. Mrs. Anderson had resided in Bristol since 1968, moving from Kingsport. She retired from Holston Valley Community Hospital in 1968. Mrs. Anderson was a member of Lynn Garden Baptist Church in Kingsport. She also served as a volunteer at Holston Valley Community Hospital and Bristol Memorial Hospital as a pink lady working in the gift shop. Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her husband, Jess F. Anderson in 1948; one sister, Ann Woods; one brother, Joe Wood; and a grandson, Louis Anderson. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jess F. and Sarah Anderson Jr. of Johnson City and L. Lowell and Barbara Anderson of Bristol, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Mark Anderson of Johnson City, Lelanda Brunson of Durham, N.C., Gloria Rowley of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Laura Taylor of Stockbridge, Ga.; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Mausoleum Chapel at Glenwood Cemetery. Dr. Ross H. Dampier will officiate. Miss Ball, 59, loved by all as "Little Shorty," passed away Sunday, March 18, 2001, in Lebanon, Va. Wesley R. Bentley= Wesley Robert Bentley, 82, died Monday, March 20, 2001, at the Cambridge House, Bristol, Tenn. Born April 6, 1918, in the Paperville Community, Bristol, he was the son of the late Rev. John Wesley and Willie Mae Atwell Bentley, and lived most of his life in Sullivan County. An avid hunter and outdoorsman, he also enjoyed camping and hunting in Sugar Grove, Va., and the surrounding Holston Mountains in Bristol. He was a member of Jacob's Creek Civilian Conservation Corps. He served in the U.S. Army, reaching the rank of master sergeant before leaving the service in 1943. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Katy Lou Wright Bentley. Survivors include daughters, Betty L. Thompson, JoAnne Sampson, Gladys Roark and Frances Rosenbalm, all of Bristol; and son, Bobby G. Bentley, Abingdon. Also surviving are two sisters, Nora Boling, Bristol, and Martha E. Sparry, Cleveland, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Rooty Branch Cemetery with Rev. Darrell Wayne Crabtree= CLEVELAND, Va. -- Mr. Darrell Wayne Crabtree, 40, passed away Monday, March 19, 2001, in a Kingsport, Tennessee hospital. Born Oct. 28, 1960, in Richlands, Va., he was a son of Emily Viola Stevens Crabtree of Cleveland, Va., and the late John Morgan Crabtree. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a disabled coal miner and of the Baptist faith. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth John Crabtree. In addition to his mother, survivors include two daughters, Emily Jane Crabtree of Rosedale, Va., and Melissa Dawn Crabtree Penton of Honaker; one granddaughter, Kristie Michelle Combs; one grandson, Mark Travis Combs; two sisters, Nancy Wilson of Council, Va., and Tammy Hatfield of Fort Mill, S.C.; five brothers, Kelvin Crabtree, Sidney Crabtree and Danny Crabtree, all of Honaker, Robert Wade Crabtree of Troutville, Va., and Jonathan Claude Crabtree of Cleveland, Va.; his former wife of 21 years, Mary Crabtree of Honaker; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Audrie M. Crawford= RICHLANDS, VA. -- Mrs. Audrie M. Crawford, 92, of 210 Floyd Ave., died Monday, March 19, 2001, at a Tazewell, Virginia hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born in Scott County, Va., and was a daughter of the late Lilburn Harrison and Mary Lambert Cox, both Scott County, Va., natives. She had made her home in the Richlands area most of her life and was a member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church. She was a devoted homemaker and loving mother to her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Vernie H. Crawford; three sisters; one half-sister; one brother; and three half-brothers. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Charles Robert Hamilton= KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- Charles Robert Hamilton, 74, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, March 20, 2001, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. He was born in Scott County, Va., and had lived in Kingsport since 1955, a son of the late Grover Cleveland (Chee) Hamilton and Rosa Rebecca Necessary Hamilton. He retired in 1986 from the acetate yarn division of Tennessee Eastman Company after 41 years of service. In his retirement he enjoyed woodworking, gardening and playing with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Pentecostal Powerhouse Church in Gate City, Va., a veteran with the United States Army serving with the Special Training Unit. He was a loving and faithful husband, father and grandfather. Other than his parents, his sisters, Virginia Ada Hamilton, Delilah Neeley, Roxie Neeley, Reba King, Kathleen Bishop and Ona Neely; and a brother, Elmer Hamilton, preceded him in death. Hubert was born Sept. 6, 1915, in Scott County, Va., to the late Rueben and Elizabeth McClain McMurray. Hubert was retired from the Tennessee Eastman Company after 41 years of service. Claude Norris= ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. -- Claude Norris, 87, of 202 Ridgecrest Drive, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Hermitage Health Care. A native of Alpine, Tenn., he was the son of the late Center and Foncie Brown Norris. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton, where he was a charter member of the Four Square Sunday School Class. Mr. Norris received a B.S. in agriculture from Tennessee Technological University and an M.A. in agriculture from the University of Tennessee. Following service in the U.S. Air Force in World War II, he worked for the University of Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service in Johnson and Carter counties. After his retirement in 1975, he worked as agricultural and public relations director for Citizen's Bank until 1983. His long tenure as agricultural agent in Carter County was distinguished by the success of the community clubs he founded. Under his leadership, several of them received state and national recognition. He also served on the Governor's Advisory Council of Aging, the Board of Directors of Sycamore Shoals Hospital, the Board of Directors of the Watauga Mental Health Center, the Advisory Board of the Herman Robinson Vocational Technical School and the Private Industry Council of the First Tennessee Development District. He was also a member and past chairman of the American Heart Association, member and past president of Watauga Chapter 1845 of N.A.R.F.E., and held membership in Dasheill Masonic Lodge \238 F&AM and American Legion Watauga Post 49. Mr. Norris was an avid sportsman and bridge enthusiast. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife, Geneva Grindstaff Norris of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon N. and Dr. Neil Mooney, Bristol, Tenn., and Beverly N. and Russell M. He was born in Cedar Bluff, Va., and relocated to Tampa in 1958 from Lebanon, Va. Mr. Robinson was a member of the Church of Christ. He served in the United States Army during World War II as a medic. Mr. Robinson worked for Tampa Electric as an underground foreman for more than 20 years. Mr. Smith, 26, of 821 Lee Highway, passed away Monday, March 19, 2001, at his home following a lengthy illness. Born Sept. 16, 1974, in Richlands, Va., he was a son of Wylie C. Smith of Honaker and Mary E. Ball Smith of Blacksburg, Va. He was a former resident of Buchanan County and had resided in Pulaski for the past seven years. He attended Council High School and completed with a GED diploma. He had attended Southwest Virginia Community College in Richlands, Va. He enlisted with the Job Corps in Gulfport, Mississippi, where he received his nursing assistant certificate. He then joined the United States Army in 1994, stationed in Fort Jackson, S.C. He was soon released due to illness and received an honorable discharge. He was a former employee of New River Castings in Radford, Va. He was a member of Abundant Life Ministries in Pulaski. In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Anita Boysaw Smith of Pulaski; one daughter, Chelsea Danielle Smith of Pulaski; one stepson, Devon Boysaw of Pulaski; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who loved him so very much and will miss him. She was an active member of Pisgah United Methodist Church in Tazewell for 50 years where she had taught Sunday school, been a member of the choir and an active participate in the United Methodist Women. She graduated from Tazewell High School and attended Concord College in Athens, W.Va. She taught school for many years in Tazewell County, Va. She was also a member of the Walter and Irene Mustard Sunday school class, the Pisgah United Methodist Women, Tazewell American Legion Post Auxiliary, the Tazewell Community Hospital Auxiliary and a licensed cosmetologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia. She was also the former owner//operator of the Four Way Beauty Bar in Tazewell. She was previously employed by Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell. She was active in the Tazewell County Retired Senior Volunteer Program and was honored as the Tazewell Area Volunteer of the Year in 1997. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Mullins Jr., who served in the Army during World War II, and a sister, Juanita Ramsey.
