He was born in Bristol and had lived all his life in the Bristol-Bluff City area. He had been employed by the Bristol Tennessee Electric System for 21 years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Bluff City and the M.M. Martin Masonic Lodge 547 of Piney Flats. Survivors include his wife, Kristin Blevins Austin; his children, Ashley Austin, Tiffany Austin and Curtney Austin, all of Bluff City; his mother, Josefa Austin of Bluff City; his sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Larry Litton of Bristol; his stepchildren, Brandi Phillips, Myles Phillips and Isaac Phillips, all of Bluff City; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Carolyn and Frank Blevins of Bluff City; and two nephews, Ford Litton and Austin Litton. A lifelong resident of the Honaker area, she was of the Primitive Baptist faith and was employed for 11 years at Honaker Mills as an inspector. Compton Sr. and Vera M. Cook Compton. He was an Army veteran and worked for the Norfolk and Western Railway until November, 1982. He was a member of First Assembly of God in Bluefield, Va. William Earl Dennis ROANOKE, Va. -- Rev. William Earl Dennis, a native of Louisville, Ky., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 4, 2001. A son of the late William Earl Dennis Sr. and Vera Brummett Dennis, he was predeceased by his sisters, Thelma Capps and Ruth Griffin; a brother, Oscar Dennis; a nephew, Henry Griffin Sr.; and a niece, Norma Gail Griffin. He was an ordained bishop with the Church of God of Prophecy, headquartered in Cleveland, Tenn. Bill traveled extensively in evangelism ministry, serving as a public relations director, a director of evangelism and a pastor in the state of Virginia. His pastorates in Virginia included Fries, Roanoke, Northview, Salem and Glade Spring. He had a sweet and gentle spirit and will be missed by many people whom he called his " sugar lumps." He was the retired manager of Williamson Oil Company and a loving father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Della Blackburn McCoy, on Sept. 20, 1995; and one brother, Bill George McCoy. Larry Charles Robinson GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- Larry Charles Robinson, 56, of 4029 Fieldstone Drive, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Robinson was a native of Bristol, Va., and had lived in Georgia since 1969. He retired from Southern Bell with 30 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post 7. He was a member of the Riverbend Baptist Church. Mr. Robinson was a star athlete in Virginia High School football and track, with a record in broad jump that has never been broken. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a dedicated member of his church and loved his church family and friends. He went to be with Jesus after a long battle with brain cancer. Mr. Robinson lost the battle, but because of salvation he wins the war. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Finney Whited. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann Whited and David Oakes; two grandchildren, Rob and William Oakes of Richmond; and many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. She was a graduate of Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Va., and Emory & Henry College of Emory, Va. During World War II, she served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She taught elementary school in Russell County and was a lifelong member of the Lebanon Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, circle member and volunteer. She was also a member of the Russell County Medical Center Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star. After her relocation to Richmond in 1992, she attended the Ridge Baptist Church where she was a member of the Willhoite Bible Class. She also volunteered for the Henrico County Schools. He was a devoted family man and worked for days and hours rebuilding the Flanary Little League Field. He loved doing for others and also coached Little League. He was of the Apostolic faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he served in the Battery B 156th Field Artillery Battalion. He received the American Theater Campaign Medal, Eame Campaign Medal with three bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Carston Ford; and one daughter, Tamara Susan Ford. Mrs. Kelly, of Bristol, Va., died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, in Wytheville. Her childhood was spent in Wytheville, where she attended George Wythe High School. She later received her teaching certificate from Radford College. Before her marriage to James S. Kelly, she taught school in Wythe County and at the Council Mission School. She moved to Bristol in 1928 with her husband and enjoyed the majority of her 96 years in this community. In Bristol, she was active in the Democratic Party, assisted in the establishment of the local health department and occasionally worked as a substitute teacher. During the early years of World War II, she was the dietitian at Kings Mountain Hospital. She will best be remembered as the long-time secretary of the local draft board and thoughtful counselor to the many young men who came to her office. Her life was centered in her family, her home and her church. She was a former chairman of the Altar Flowers Committee and was the oldest member of the Fidelis Sunday school class of State Street United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the Gibbon Study Club, a founding member of the Bristol League of Women Voters and, in earlier years, was an active participant in several musical groups.
