Mr. Bennett was a retired coal miner and a life-time resident of Wise County. He was preceded in death by a son, Bobby J. Bennett; and a grandson, Bobby J. Bennett Jr. Survivors include his wife, Lillian James Bennett; daughters, Catherine Hamm and Dorothy Roberts, both of Coeburn, and Della Roberts, Wise; daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and John Markham and Linda and James Jones, both of Coeburn; a son, Edward Bennett, Whittier, Calif.; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nephews; and several nieces. Holt Carmody Ruth Evelyn Holt Carmody, 60, of 24141 Crimson Drive, Bristol, Va., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Carmody was a native of Bluff City and had spent all of her life in the Bristol area. She was a retired nurse at the Old King Mountain Nursing Home and the Bristol Memorial Hospital. Ruth was a wonderful wife and mother. She was a member of the Community Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher in the children's department. Survivors include her husband, Roy Wyndell Carmody; one daughter, Wyndee Carmody Meade of Bristol Virginia; two sons, Rev. Richard Carmody of Bristol Tennessee, Rev. Mike Carmody of Bristol Virginia; her parents, Arthur and Virginia Holt of Bluff City; and two sisters, Carolyn Profitt of Sulpher Springs, Tenn., Patsy Stophel of Bluff City. During high school, he was a member of the wrestling team. He was an active member of the Iron Workers Local 301 of Charleston, W.Va. Clarke, 69, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport. He was born in Richmond, son of the late William and Rebecca Duke Clarke. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jesse Clarke. Mr. Clarke purchased Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, in December 1976 and Old Dominion Memorial Gardens in Roanoke in the early 80's. He was involved in the cemetery industry for over 40 years. He was a past president of the Virginia Cemetery Association, an active member of the Southern Cemetery Association and the International Cemetery and Funeral Association. He is survived by one daughter, Kathy Clarke of Candler, N.C.; three sisters, Arlyene Brame of Victoria, Va., Katherine Slayton of Richmond and Julia Stone of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two nieces; and six nephews. He was born in Sullivan County, Tenn., a son of the late James Rosenbalm and Nellie H. Feathers Rosenbalm. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Rosenbalm was a former employee of Black & White Cab Company and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Ellison Rosenbalm; two brothers, Claude Rosenbalm and James Rosenbalm; and a sister, Neva Nunn. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Ramsey of St. George, S.C.; a son, Clarence G. Rosenbalm of St. George; a brother, A.J. Rosenbalm of Bristol Virginia; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the chapel of Blevins Funeral Home with Dr. Charles C. Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Rooty Branch Cemetery. Beavers Sayers,, 94, of the Raven Nest Branch section, passed away at her home Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, following a long illness. She was born in Piney Flats, Tenn., a daughter of Walter and Fannie Green Millsaps. She was the widow of Wendell Watson, whom she married Dec. 19, 1935. Mrs. Watson worked for the Sullivan County School System and was a member of Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church.
