Kim Lotts Campbell ABINGDON -- Kim Lotts Campbell, 41, died Thursday morning, March 20, 2003, in Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Washington County, Va., and had lived in the Lexington, Va., area before returning to Abingdon eight years ago. She was a graduate of Abingdon High School and attended Virginia Highlands Community College and Southern Seminary. She was a former employee of Washington and Lee University and a member of Greendale Chapel. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Pete and Pinky Lotts. Survivors include one son, Joshua Campbell of Lexington; her parents, K.W. (Wick) and Phyllis Eggers Lotts of Abingdon; her maternal grandparents, Richard and Dora Mae Eggers of Abingdon; several aunts, uncles, cousins; and a special friend, Tom Goodman of Abingdon. She was a 1970 graduate of Grundy High School, a 37-year member of the Vansant Baptist Church, former employee of Island Creek, the Division of Motor Vehicles, former member of the Grundy Junior Womens Club and served as former chairperson of the March of Dimes. She enjoyed bowling, was a loving daughter, mother, sister and a friend to many. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, R.D. and Verna Myers; and paternal grandparents, Joe and Virginia Coleman. She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, was of the Pentecostal faith and was a homemaker. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Shirley Ann Smith WYTHEVILLE -- Shirley Ann Ashe Smith went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Wythe County Community Hospital. She was born in Pocahontas, Va., to the late William Taft and Katherine Kendrick Ashe. She was one of four siblings and was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy and Michael Ashe. She was educated in the Tazewell County public school system. She also attended Bluefield State College. She was a silhouette of Kappa Alpha PSI Fraternity Inc. of Beckley, Southern West Virgina Alumni Chapter. She received certification in American banking from the American Institute of Banking through Wytheville Community College. She worked as a teacher's aide in the Wythe County public schools and also First National Exchange Bank. Due to illness, she retired on disability in 1979. She was a member of Franklin Street United Methodist Church and was former president of the Women's Society of Christian Services and served as a soloist in the community. On June 2, 1956, she married Ernest E. Smith Sr. To this union, two children were born. Ann enjoyed gardening and growing special flowers such as her favorite, tulips. However, the love of her life was watching for grandsons play sports. She is survived by a loving husband of 47 years, Ernest E. Smith Sr.; a daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Marshall Murray; a son and daughter-in- law, Ernest E. and Dixie Smith Jr.; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry Allen and Elizabeth A. Ashe; five grandchildren, Brianna, Demetrick, Trey, Leann and Devin; one great-grandchild, Maliah; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law; and friends.
