Survivors and funeral arrangements will be announced by Bradley's Funeral Home, Marion. Edna L. Clarkston KINGSPORT -- Edna L. Clarkston, 85, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2003, at The Wexford House at Kingsport. She was a member of the Lynn Garden Baptist Church, a graduate of Dryden High School and Radford State Teachers College. She taught school in the Lee County, Virginia and Sullivan County, Tennessee school systems for 43 years. She was a member of the Sullivan County Retired Teachers Association and a member of the Tennessee Retired Teachers Association. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Margie Slemp Clarkston; sister, Lucile Clarkston Blankenship; and brother, Charles Edgar Clarkston. She is survived by three sisters, Ruth Clarkston English, Kingsport, Olga Clarkston Collier, Big Stone Gap, Va., and Alma Clarkston Hobbs, Bristol Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Holding Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday from American Legion Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Ledger officiating. Ferne Comer Ferne Geagley Comer, age 101, of Bristol Tennessee, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at the home of her daughter. She was born July 20, 1901, in Afton, Tenn. She was the daughter of the late John and Julia Geagley, moving to Bristol at the age of four. Mrs. Comer was a member of State Street United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Comer. She had retired as co-owner of Comer Insurance Agency with husband George, which was associated with First Federal Savings and Loan Association where he served as president. In 1958 they moved to Land O' Lakes, Fla., and lived there for 25 years. She returned to Bristol and for the last nine years lived with her daughter and son-in-law. Survivors include: daughter, Barbara Comer Anderson and husband L. Lowell Anderson; granddaughters, Lelanda Brunson of Durham, N.C., Gloria Rowley of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Laura Taylor of Stockbridge, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Danielle and Michelle Brunson and Kenny and George Rowley. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2003, in Mountain View Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with Dr. Ross H. Dampier officiating. (Tommy) Jewell, 65, formerly of Richlands, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Tazewell Virginia following a long illness. A native of Jewell Ridge, Va., he was the son of the late Silas Bascom Jewell Sr. and Ellen Underwood Jewell Sparks. Tommy was a well-known citizen of the Richlands area and was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his stepfather, Clyde Sparks; one brother, Wendell Jewell; and two sisters, Linda Gail Lankford and Dorothy Jewell Hays. He is survived by one brother, Silas Jewell Jr. of Martinsville, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. George Edd Lester GRUNDY -- George Edd Lester, 81 years of age, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2003, in Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy. Born in Buchanan County Dec. 7, 1921, the son of the late Paris Charles Lester and Cosby Lester Lester. He was a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA, a 42-year member of the Sulphur Springs Primitive Baptist Church where he served as deacon for 39 years. He was an avid gardener, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Ida Mae Hackney Lester on Aug. 12, 2001, two sisters; and two brothers. He is survived by seven daughters, Mrs. Paul (Florence) Smith of Big Rock, Va., Mrs. Edna Lester of Grundy, Mrs. Chester (Ruth) Wolford of Hurley, Va., Mrs. Wayne (Bertie) Hale of Vansant, Va., Mrs. Dale (Joan) Chamber of Shawnee, Okla., Mrs. Ida McClanahan of Versailles, Mo., Mrs. David (Edith) McClanahan of Grundy; one son, Herman Lester of Grundy; six sisters, Hester Michaels of Statesville, N.C., Josephine Charles of Big Rock, Va., Rose Jean Green of Grundy, Shirley Smith and Frankie Charles, both of Statesville, and Sue Stiltner of Jackson, Ohio; seven brothers, Roy Lester of Big Rock, Va.,. Morrell Arthur Woodrow Morrell, 75, of 216 Morrell Town Road, Bristol, Tenn., went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Wellmont Hospice House. Woodrow was born Dec. 12, 1927, a son of the late David E. "Edgar" and Rosa Carrier Morrell, and has made his home in the Bristol area all of his life. He was a retired farmer, heavy equipment operator with TVA and heavy equipment instructor at the Job Corps. Woodrow was a U.S. Navy veteran, a member of Central Holston Christian Church, VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975 and International Operator Engineers. Survivors include his wife, Virginia "Ginny" Ferguson Morrell; sister, Nell Campbell and her husband Charles; brothers, Ernest Morrell and wife Gertrude and J.D. Morrell and wife Kathy; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She was married to John Henry Mullins who along with two sons, James Teddy and Jerry Lee Mullins preceded her in death.
