Duncan, 78, formerly of Clinchco, Va., passed away April 6, 2003, at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by parents, Dayton and Lillian Hillman; brothers, Dayton, Claude, Harold and Maurice Hillman. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Harry Duncan; son, Robert Duncan of Nashville; daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and John Stafford of Ripplemead, Va., Deborah and Phil Douglas of New Albany, Ind., and Cheryl Duncan of Knoxville; grandchildren, Amy Mutter, Krista Shirley, Ryan Duncan, Matthew Douglas and Rachel Douglas; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Tristan Mutter; sisters, Vivian Payne of Ft. Clyde Oliver Ford Sr. APPALACHIA -- Clyde Oliver Ford Sr., 87, passed away Monday, April 7, 2003, at his home. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Appalachia and was a former owner of the 777 Cab Business of Appalachia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Trudy Ford; sisters, Elsie Swift and Charmie Corice; and a brother, Hick Ford. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Clyde O. Jr. and Patsy Ford, Dryden, Va.; nephews, Raymond Corice, Raymond, Miss., Freddie Ford, Appalachia and Jerry Ford, Blountville; and niece, Barbara Corice Patterson, Rogersville, Tenn. Pearl Grise MARION -- Pearl Grise died Monday, April 7, 2003, in the Community hospital in Munster, Ind. She was born in Smyth County to the late Jack and Bessie Hayton Pruitt and was preceded in death by four brothers. Survivors include: husband, Morris Grise; one daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Harold Lefkofsky, Munster; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Veronica Grise, Cedar Lake, Ind.; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Louise Buchanan, Marion, Mary and Gene Armstrong, Marion and Betty Burns, Garrettsville, Va.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Dan and Donna Mae Pruitt, Rich Valley, Paul and Mary Ann Pruitt, Rich Valley and George Wiley Pruitt, Panama Canal; three grandchildren, Sarah Lefkofsky and Jeffrey and Victoria Grise; and several nieces and nephews also survive. She was born in West Virginia and had lived in Washington County since 1968. She was of the Baptist faith and preceded in death by her husband, Carl F. Hamilton. She is survived by one son, Carl Gene Hamilton of Glade Spring; two daughters, Brenda Sapirman of Hollywood, Fla., and Linda Elmore of Ft. Mr. McMurray had lived in the Bristol area for 15 years and was preceded in death by one brother, Carlos McMurray. Mr. McMurray is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Alene Olinger McMurray; three daughters, Rosie Mae Hall of Bristol Virginia, Darlene McMurray of Kingsport and Dora Lee Stacy of Bristol Virginia; one son, Clarence McMurray, Blountville; two brothers, Joe McMurray of Alexandria, Ohio, and Carlenius McMurray of Gate City, Va.; two sisters, Mattie Lee Booher of Port Clinton, Ohio, and Stella Mae McMurray of Bristol Tennessee; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Mona Shumaker Mrs. Mona Irene Barb Shumaker, 81, of Bristol Virginia, died Tuesday at Bristol Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was a member of State Street United Methodist Church. Mona was a past president of Stonewall Jackson Elementary School PTA, Virginia High School PTA and the Bristol Central Council PTA. She was formerly an active volunteer in Bristol Central Little League and a past member of the Bristol Women's Club. She also served in various capacities at Beech Grove United Methodist Church. She was a native of Bristol where she lived most of her life. At the time of her death, she was corporate secretary of Barb and Shumaker, Inc., which she, along with her husband and her father, founded in 1954. She was preceded in death by her parents, John R. and May Smith Barb; her brother, Ted R. Barb; and her special uncle and aunt, William D. and Georgia Smith Harr. Mrs. Shumaker is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Don W. Shumaker Sr.; two sons, Don W. Shumaker Jr. (Carol E. McGlothlin) and Dr. William R. Shumaker (Beth Loudy Shumaker); one sister-in-law, Mary Jane Barb; nieces a nephew; cousins; and her special extended family which includes Margaret Toon, James (Red) White and Marcie Lester. She was a homemaker and was formerly employed by the Lerner's Department Store as store clerk. She was of the Protestant faith. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert C. Whaley, who died in 1955; three brothers, Tom, John and Luther Gentry; and three sisters, Tina Maxwell, Lula Lineberry and Anna Haywood. Survivors include; her daughter, Mrs. Margaret B. Barker of Cucumber; her son, Nathan "Bill" Whaley of Bristol Tennessee; sister, Frona Norris, Statesville, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
