Barker DAMASCUS -- Jack A. Barker, 49, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie. He was a life long resident of Damascus and was the son of the late Russell and Anne Barker. He was a member of the Damascus Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Barker; and his stepfather, Robert Vannoy. He is survived by two daughters, Holly Baumgarner and her husband Tony of Vilas, N.C., and Jamie Barker of Glade Spring; one son, Russell Barker of Leceister, N.C.; two sisters, Sandra Parker and her husband Steve of Orange Park, Fla., and Janet Ragan and her husband Neal of Glade Spring; one sister-in- law, Judy Barker of Damascus; one aunt, Marie Ironside of Kennett Square, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2003, at the graveside at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus with Rev. Mike Bowers officiating. He was born in Washington County to the late Aras and Bertie Blevins and was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Blevins. He was retired from B.F. Goodrich and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II. Survivors include: one daughter, Carolyn Blevins, Centreville, Va.; two sons, Billy J. Blevins, Marion and Michael F. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Wayne Capps; a son, Timothy Vance Capps; a brother, Alvin Pike; and her twin brother, Laron Bruce Pike. Survivors include a daughter, M. Waynette Wilson and her husband Dennis of Bristol Tennessee; two sisters, Emma Jean Rice of Weaverville, N.C., and Muriel Reed and her husband Clyde of Marshall, N.C.; a granddaughter, Katie Wilson; and several nieces and nephews. He moved to the area when he was 10 years old. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy as a first class gunner. He retired from ET & WNC after 27 years of service as a truck driver and was a member of the Teamsters Retired Club. He was a member of the Bluff City United Methodist Church.
