He was a member of the Rich Valley Presbyterian Church, Rich Valley Farmers Club and recipient of the 1996 Farm Management Award from Southwest Virginia Agriculture Association, Inc. He was also past president of the Rich Valley Fair Association. He also attended Milligan College and Emory & Henry College, was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict, a life long farmer and retired from the Virginia Cooperative Extension Services. Survivors include his wife, Ann Arden Buchanan, Saltville; one son, David C. Buchanan Jr., Saltville; and two sisters, Laura Matthews, Marion and Virginia Buchanan, Black Mountain, N.C. Mr. Carr was a Johnson City native and had been a resident of Piney Flats for most of his life. He was a son of the late Ernest Carr Sr. and Ida Mae Emert Carr. Mr. Carr was employed as a tool sharpener with S.P. Tool Service, Piney Flats. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Carr was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Earl Car and Clifford Daniel Carr. Survivors include one brother, Ernest "Lee" Carr Jr., Gray; five sisters, Beatrice Roark and Gladine Whitaker, both of Johnson City, Dinah Holsclaw, Phyllis White and Linda Stevens, all of Elizabethton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Eilleene was born Dec. 9, 1925, in McDowell County, W.Va., to the late Samuel Isaiah Dean and Sadie Ethel Lambert. She was the widow of Silvon Caudill. She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Henry "Floyd" Lambert and Mary Jane Hamilton Lambert and William Harrison Dean and Mary "Ellen" Graham Dean; one son, Silvon "Dean" Caudill; a sister, Kathleen Dean Collins; and brothers, Paul Dean and Harold Dean. Eilleene and her family moved to the Wyndale Community in 1956 from McDowell County, W.Va. She was a member of the Wyndale United Methodist Church. Eilleene was loved by all that knew her and she will be dearly missed. Hawks Jr. NASHVILLE -- John Ralph Hawks Jr., 72, of 3807 Baxter Ave., passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2003, in the Alive Hospice in Nashville. Mr. Hawks was born on April 22, 1931, in Bristol Tennessee, to the late John R. Hawks Sr. and Hattie Mayes Hawks. He was the co-owner of the Knife and Fork Restaurant in East Nashville during the late 1970s and also owner of the Stahlman Building Restaurant on Union Street for the past 21 years. He was also employed by Pilot Convenience Stores on Waldron Road for the past 10 years. Mr. Hawks was a veteran having served in the Korean War. He was preceded in death by one brother, Harry L. Hawks. Mrs. Honaker was a native of Russell County, Va., and had lived in the Blountville area for many years. She was the daughter of the late Charles William and Martha Price. She worked for many years at Big Jack Manufacturing and North Electric Co. She attended Wheeler United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Honaker; one daughter, Minnie Lopez; two sons, Paul Honaker and Auburn Honaker; one sister, Anne White; two brothers, Ames Price and Howard Price; and two grandsons, David Steele and David Lopez. She was a loving mother, who also loved gardening, reading and being a homemaker and farmer's wife. She opened her heart and home to help anyone who was in need. Clyde Orr BAIRD, Texas - Clyde Robert "Bob" Franklin Orr, 60, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at his home. Born in Marion, Va., he was the son of Robert and Nannie Trail Orr. He attended school in Marion where he graduated from Marion Senior High School. After graduating, he enlisted in the military serving in the U.S. Air Force until retirement in 1983, retiring as a master sergeant. He continued to serve in the Reserves until 1992. After retirement he worked at Gooch's Meat in Abilene for nine and a half years and at Bruss Meats in Chicago for eight years. He moved from Abilene to Clyde in 1984. Surviving are his wife, Bobbie Christy; four sons, Chris Orr of Midlothian, Texas, Robert Patrick of Hedgesville. Inga Marion Smart Inga Marion Smart, 97, passed away Easter morning, April 20, 2003, at Greendale Home where she has been a resident for the past three years. She moved to Abingdon in 1990 from San Diego, Calif. She was a native of Winnepeg, Manitoba, where her family migrated from Norway in the early 1900 just before her birth. She is survived by two sons, Donald Smart of Vancouver, Wash., and Gordon Smart of Bakersfield, Calif.; two daughters, Irene Godmaire, Canada , and her youngest child Frank Bartch, Abingdon; two brothers, Clifford Jacobson and Clarence Jacobson; one sister, Margaret; 15 grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren. She is also survived by our special friend, Priscilla Borders, who took such wonderful care of our mother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vanet Morrell Mckenzie Smart; one daughter, Helen Jean Gallagher; five brothers, Sverre, Henry, Victor, William, and Roy; and a sister, Ellen. She was a beautician in San Diego prior to retiring and had owned her own beauty shop, "Inga's Beauty Salon". She was a kind and caring mother and friend and loved by all who knew her. A native of Bristol Tennessee, he was the son of the late Noah Franklin and Delphia F. Smith. He was of the Baptist faith. "Red Beard" was an automobile salesman. Survivors include a son and his wife, Kelly and Shelley Smith of Bristol; a grandson, Chandler Lee Smith of Bristol; a brother, Earl Smith of Bristol; and his fiancÈ, Connie McAllister of Chilhowie; and several close friends. She had spent most of her life in the Honaker area and was a member of the Church of the Living God in Honaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille Honaker, Georgia Harrison and Virginia Kiser; and three brothers, John Calvin Ritchie, Ray Edward Ritchie and Jackie Lee Ritchie.
