Hayes MARION -- O.D Hayes, 72, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, in Smyth County Community Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hobert and Carrie Pennington Hayes; and one sister, Louise Blevins. He was a member of Zion Hill United Methodist Church. O.D. was the founder of Hayes Carpet Sales and Service in 1969. He also helped organize the Adwolfe Volunteer Fire Department and was an honorary member. O.D. was an avid fisherman. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Rosa W. Hayes of Marion; one daughter, Teresa McClure and husband, Max of Chilhowie; one son, Mike Hayes of Marion; two sisters, Agnes H. Wade Milhorn, age 63, of 221 Highway 19-E, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, May 31, 2003 at NHC Healthcare, Johnson City, following a lengthy illness. A native of Piney Flats, he was a son of the late John Raymond "Bud" and Vasta Geisler Milhorn. He attended Rocky Springs Missionary Baptist Church, Piney Flats and was formerly employed by Polymer Industries, Piney Flats Industrial Park. Wade enjoyed life to the fullest. He coached several ball teams and umpired in different church leagues. Wade loved working with kids. Survivors include his loving wife, Jeannie Milhorn of the home; the pride and joy of his life were his twin sons, Ryan and Bryan Milhorn, both of the home; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Junior and Ruby Milhorn, Piney Flats and Marshall and Ruth Milhorn, Piney Flats; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Tamera Surcey; four nieces, Pamela White, Marsha Kay Gosnell, Rebecca Milhorn and Kendra Surcey; two nephews, Eddie Milhorn and Anthony Milhorn; two great- nieces; and two great nephews also survive. Everyone that came to know Wade loved him. He was a wonderful Christian, husband, father, friend and coach. He will be missed by all. She was a born in Taylors Valley on April 7, 1916, to the late Solomon E. and Lavina Gentry Lewis. She graduated from Damascus High School in 1935 and also from the Johnston Memorial School of Nursing in the Class of 1938. Most of her career was spent as a registered nurse at Johnston Memorial Hospital, where she retired in 1975 after serving as head nurse in the pharmacy for 30 years. She was a life long member of the Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, where she held the office of clerk-treasurer for many years. She also served on the Board of Directors of John M. Reed Nursing Home, was a member of the Washington County Extension Homemakers and was always available to give nursing assistance to family and neighbors. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Egbert T. Price; sisters, Verna Lewis, Ora Hoke, and Mildred Blevins; and brothers, Arthur Lewis, Paul S. Lewis, James Lewis, and William P. Lewis. She is survived by a son, John L. Eula Lee Roberts NORTH KNOXVILLE -- Eula Lee Roberts, age 97, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Born Dec. 27, 1905, in High Point, Va., the daughter of William Thomas and Sallie Mumpower Keisling. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, the widow of Floyd S. Roberts and a longtime employee of Rohm and Hass. In 1983, Mrs. Roberts donated a "Three Rank Portativ" organ to the church in memory of Mr. Roberts. Scott Roberts Park on Churchwell Avenue was re-named in her honor. Survivors include nephew, Ret. Col. John L. Patrick and wife, Charlene; cousin, Joe Mumpower; and several other family members. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Abingdon. Mrs. Scyphers was the widow of Charles Emory Scyphers and was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Vincent and Martha Jane Kestner Large; two sisters, Leona Bott and Mae Ryan; and two brothers, Fred and Rob Large. Mr. Smith was born on Aug. 16, 1942, in Washington County, Va., to the late Mr. and Mrs. William and Dorothy Smith. He had lived all his life in the Bristol area, was a truck driver and a member of the Souls Harbor Church. Mr. Smith was a veteran, having served with the U. S. Marine Corps, were he received the Rifle Marksman Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Anne Drake.
