She was born Dec. 8, 1929, in Narrows, Va., and she was the daughter of the late Frank Cecil Pruett and Minnie Katherine Law Pruett. She was a member of the Tennessee Rebel CB Club where her handle was "Tricky." She was a homemaker and was of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Tyana Marie Akers; and a brother, James Warren "Brother" Pruett. Survivors include two sons: Jerry Dean Akers and wife, Ruth of Bristol Virginia; and Dion Lee Akers and wife, Chris of Bristol Tennessee; two daughters: Kathy Akers Thomas and husband, Dennis of Johnson City, Tenn.; and Venida Akers Kelly of Bristol; and special friend: Charlie Bill Williams of Broad Ford, Va.; brother, Bob Pruett of Abingdon; two sisters: Shirley Ann Huff of Florida; and Frances Sheets of Glade Spring, Va.; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Owen Bolling POUND, Va. -- Owen Bolling, 73, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Johnston Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Owen was of the Baptist faith, a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Pound Masonic Lodge 59 AF&AM. He was preceded in death by his parents, Verner and Bertie Bolling; two brothers; and three sisters. Owen lived his life to help others in need. He wanted so much to go to the waters to be baptized, but was never able to do so. He said God has a place for him in heaven. Earth's loss is heaven's gain. A lifelong resident of Dickenson County, he owned and operated Carl Fleming TV Sales and Service for 38 years. He was a member and former deacon of Clintwood Baptist Church, a member of the Chase Lodge 21, IOOF, and veteran of World War II, U.S. Navy. His parents, Russell and Wanda Vanover Fleming; a daughter, Rebecca Sue; brother, Galen; and four grandchildren preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Lillian Hughes Fleming, Clintwood; son, Doug Fleming, Clintwood; a daughter, Rita Robinson; five grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren. She was born in Sumter County, a daughter of the late William Tillman Hurst and Maude Vernon Wise Hurst. She was the widow of Thomas Eugene Grubbs. Mrs. Hurst was a retired registered nurse, a member of the Retired Nurses Association and a member of First United Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Theresa Yates of Damascus, Va., and Tammie Driggers of Americus; one son, Thomas Edward Driggers of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Freddie Duncan of Oviedo, Fla.; one brother, William T. Hamilton BRISTOL, Va. -- Harold Webster "Webb" Hamilton, age 71, of 2401 Bradley Street, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2003, at the VA Medical Center. He was the son of the late W. B. "Bill" and Eula Bellamy Hamilton and was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area. He was the former owner and operator of Union Shoe Shop for more than 50 years. He was a member of Hunt Memorial United Methodist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. Survivors include: wife of 54 years, Peggy Sapp Hamilton; sons: Jeff Hamilton and wife Vicky of Bristol Tennessee; and Jerry Hamilton and wife Myra of Cumming, Ga.; special granddaughters, Elizabeth Hamilton, Holly Hamilton and Heather Hamilton; sister, Faye Herron of Bristol Virginia; brother, Bruce Hamilton; and several nieces and nephews. Julia Hendricks ABINGDON, Va. -- Mrs. Julia Burton Hucks Hendricks went home to be with her Lord on June 2, 2003. She had been a lifelong resident of High Point, N.C., before moving to Meadowview, Va., in 1993. Julia, born Feb. 13, 1923, in Guilford County, N.C., was the third daughter of the late Gurney Willard and Lona Ward Burton. She was married Nov. 27, 1942, to Benjamin Frank Hucks Jr., who died Feb. 24, 1962. In 1975, she married William O. Hendricks, who died in 1993. She was an active member of Fellowship Baptist Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. She was a 1940 graduate of High Point High School and was retired from Prudential Insurance Co., High Point. Her sister, Katherine Ayers of Graham, N.C., preceded her in death. She is survived by daughters: Linda Hucks Pullum and husband Don of Thomasville, N.C.; Rebecca Hucks Sargent and husband Phillip of King, N.C.; and JoEllen Hucks Davis and husband Stuart of Winston-Salem, N.C.; son, Herman J. Hucks and wife Lydia of Meadowview; grandchildren Martha Hucks Poland, Benjamin Hucks, Amanda Hucks, John Hucks, Krys Sargent, Shane Sargent, and Patricia Faux; and great-grandchildren, Carolina Sargent and Kiya Faux. Mrs. Jones was a housewife, a member of the Tennessee Ave. Baptist Church and had lived in the Bristol area since the 1940s. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Paul W. Jones; four daughters, Debbie Jones Dowell, Rose Marie Hundnall, Pauline Jones and Loraine Jones Morelock.
