Formerly of Dickenson County, she had lived in Paintsville for the past 10 years. Mrs. Clay was a retired schoolteacher and member of Peuther Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Zelphia Bise Carty, and the widow of Arnold Clay. Surviving are three daughters, Ama Aileene Hood, Jacksonville, Fla., Gloria Dean Lucchese, Atlanta and Carolyn Sue Turner, Paintsville; one brother, Taulbee Carty, Clintwood; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He enjoyed basketball, softball and hunting. Mr. Hardin was born Feb. 16, 1923, a son of the late John and Sally Hinkle Hardin. He retired from Electrolux in 1988, was a member of the Mount Holston Baptist Church, where he has served as deacon, Sunday School superintendent and men's adult Bible teacher and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. Mr. Hardin was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Buchanan Hardin, on Dec. 6, 1990; his second wife, Mary Hazel Greene Hardin, on Jan 25, 2003; and step-grandson, Edward Belcher on March 29, 2003. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel Kate, Flona and Lydia; two half sisters, Rosa and Alice; and four half brothers, Bill, George, Elijah and Reuben.
