He was born Sept. 1, 1915, in Smyth County, Va., and was the son of the late Dell and Fannie Aker. He was a member of the Chilhowie United Methodist Church. He was a Fuller Brush dealer for the past 51 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was an active member of the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667, Marion. He was preceded in death by one brother, Gaylord Aker; and one sister, Louise Aker Troxell. Mr. Aker was a loving husband and dad, who always had time for others. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Thelma Brown Aker; one son and daughter-in-law, James R. and Patricia Aker, Abingdon; two sisters, Emma Jo Terry, Chilhowie and Katherine Bartley, Chilhowie; one brother-in-law, Rev. Paul Brown Sr., Jonesborough, Tenn.; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Williams Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Mark B. McFadden officiating. Essie Wyatt DAMASCUS -- The funeral service for Essie Elizabeth Shomate Wyatt will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2003, in the St. Matthews Lutheran Church, with Pastor Wil Robertson officiating.
