John Joseph Craven John Joseph Craven, M.D., 81, died at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, Knoxville, Tenn, on June 15, 2003. He was the youngest of the six children of Thomas Joseph Craven and Margaret Dugan. He was born in Memphis and graduated from Springhill College in Mobile, Ala., in 1942. After serving in the military, he entered UT Medical School, graduating in 1948. He interned at John Gaston Hospital in Memphis and then served as the county health officer in Washington County, Tenn. After completing a residency in radiology at the Cleveland Clinic, he practiced radiology in Roswell, N.M., and Odessa, Texas, before moving to Knoxville in 1957. He served as chief of radiology at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center from 1957 until he retired in 1985. Dr. Craven married Carolyn Gray Bickley in 1951. She was deceased in 1991. They were the parents of four daughters, Rebecca Carol Bickley, Laura Elizabeth and Kathryn Gray. He is survived by his wife, Ellie Morrow Craven, of Maryville, Tenn., whom he married in 1994: daughters: Dr. Rebecca Craven Wills, of Hershey, Pa., and husband Dr. John Wills; Dr. Bickley Craven, of Abingdon and special friend, Pam Scott; Laura Craven Nantt of Dunlap, Tenn., and husband Larry Nantt; Kathryn Gray Craven Rebelo, of Lisbon, Portugal, and husband Dr. Luis Paulo Rebelo; five granddaughters, Denise Young Nantt, Melissa Ann Wills, Marci Allison Wills, Christina Tess Rebelo and Anna Kathleen Rebelo: four stepchildren: Dr. Stephen E. Hawkins SPRING HILL, Fla. -- Maude Couch Hawkins, age 82, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at Hernando-Pasco Hospice in Brooksville, Fla. She was born in Toms Creek, Va., and lived the major part of her life in Coeburn, moving to Spring Hill in 1988. While living in Coeburn, she was a member of the Coeburn Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Bible school director, youth group director and choir director. After moving to Florida, she became a member of the Grace Presbyterian Church. She was the daughter of the late Jack and Lettie Couch of Coeburn. Maude was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Hawkins. She was bookkeeper and postmistress at Splash Dam Smokeless Coal Co. at Bartlick, Va. She served on Coeburn Town Council and chairman of Coeburn planning commission. She was also president of Coeburn PTA for six years and received a life membership in the Virginia Congress of Parents and Teachers. She was a member of the Wise County Republican Party where she served as president of the Republican Women's Club. Maude served as treasurer of Wise County from 1980-1987 during which she received the Victor E. Martinelli Outstanding Treasurer of the United States from the National Treasurer's Association. She also received Treasurer of the Year in 1987 from the Region I Clerk Treasurer's Association as well as Outstanding Service Award from the Fine Arts Foundation Coeburn. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Jerry Cowling of Spring Hill; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Sidney and Betty Couch of Spring Hill; and Joel and Betty Couch of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; sister-in-law, Eloise Couch of Abingdon; two grandchildren, Joshua and Heather Cowling; and several nieces and nephews.
