Baldwin MARION - Edyth Elizabeth Baldwin, age 80, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, in Smyth County Community Hospital. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Richard Greene of Fort Lee, N.J.; three grandchildren, Kelly, Jeffrey and Michael Greene, all of Fort Lee, N.J.; two sisters, Nancy Maye Hall and Virginia Baldwin, both of Marion; two brothers and sisters-in law: Jefferson Dale “J.D.” Baldwin and wife, Pat of Groseclose, Va.; and William “Bill” Baldwin and wife, Joan of Sugar Grove, Va.; several nieces and nephews also survive. Belch, 81, of the 2000 block of Cedar Road, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2003, in a local hospital. A native of Bluff City, Earlena was a retired assembly worker for General Electric and former co-owner of Jack & Jerry's Grocery Store on Indian River Road. She is survived by her husband, Horace E. Belch Sr.; three daughters: Barbara Cook and son-in-law, Buddy of Norfolk; Edna Marguerite Ensley and son-in-law, William of Chesapeake; and Jacqueline Geraldine Taylor and son-in-law, Ronnie of Virginia Beach; two sons: Horace Edward Belch Jr. and daughter-in-law, Vickie of Tallahassee, Fla.; and Charles Ray Belch of Alexandria, Va.; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Castlewood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Nakeesha Colquitt GLADE SPRING, Va. - Nakeesha Anne Colquitt (Kiwi or Princess), age 17, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, June 24, 2003. Nakeesha was active for four years in cheerleading and track and was in the color guard for three years at Patrick Henry High School. She was a 2003 graduate of Patrick Henry High School and was Miss Patrick Henry her junior year. She was a model for Brenda Wilson's Modeling Agency and traveled to Atlanta to pursue her modeling career. Nakeesha was featured in her first catalog which she was a model for cheerleading uniforms. She was planning to attend Concord College in Athens, W.Va. this August, where she planned on running track. These are only a few of her accomplishments. A special note to Halea: Nakeesha and Halea had a very special bond. When everyone in the world was around Halea, she wanted her “sissy,” Nakeesha. They were two of a kind. Half of the time, strangers thought Halea was Nakeesha's daughter. They were inseparable and Nakeesha loved Halea more than life itself. Halea thought the world of Nakeesha. She was truly her best friend. Survivors include her mother, Linda Colquitt, Abingdon, formerly of Glade Spring; her father, Mack Colquitt Sr., Tacoma, Wash.; one brother, Mack Colquitt Jr., Abingdon; her grandmother, Patricia Miller, Abingdon, formerly of Glade Spring; very special aunt, Regina Surber, Chilhowie; an aunt, Sandra Holbrook, Meadowview; great-grandmother, Trula White, Abingdon; her one and only niece, Halea Brook Colquitt, Bristol Virginia; several other aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. Lena Owens Combs BUCHANAN COUNTY, Va. - Lena Owens Combs, 94 years of age, affectionately known as “Nannie” passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2003, in Buchanan General Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Melvin and Florence Stiltner Owens. Her mother was a descendant of the first settlers of Buchanan County. Mrs. Combs was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and the oldest member of Grundy Church of Christ. She was a graduate of Mountain Mission School and a former employee of Grundy Funeral Home. She was a faithful wife, loving mother, grandmother and homemaker. Mrs. Combs was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Combs in 1957. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Billie Wooldridge; one stepdaughter, Mabel Harris; two stepsons, L.D. “Pete” Combs and Perry Combs; four sisters, Artie Rowe, Della Turner, Mary Perdue and Alta Owens; and two brothers, Earl and Burton Owens.
