Blankenship, 91, formerly of Bristol, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, at the Brian Center Nursing Home in Hickory, N.C. A daughter of the late Albert Lee Pugh and Bessie Scott Pugh, she was a native of Buchanan County, Va., and had lived in Bristol for 50 years before moving to Hickory in 1994. She was of the Baptist faith and was the widow of Ray S. Blankenship. Survivors include a son, David Blankenship and his wife Debbie of Hickory; a sister, Dolores Debona of Loysville, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews, including Norma Thompson of Roanoke, Va. She was a native of Big Stone Gap and had lived in Meadowview and Abingdon since June 1970. Mrs. Davis was a graduate of the University of Virginia and was a retired teacher with 43 years of service in Wise County, Va. She was a member of the Meadowview United Methodist Church, the Wesleyan Circle, the Virginia Retired Teachers Association and the Meadowview Extension Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude S. Davis. She is survived by: one niece, Mrs. Clancie Anne McCraw of Blacksburg, Va.; two stepsons, H. Russell Davis of Abingdon and W. B. Morley of Mount Sidney, Va.; three step grandchildren; a step-great-grandson; four great-nieces and great-nephews; and six great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Carlos Junior Ferley TANNERSVILLE, Va. - Carlos Junior Ferley, age 80, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, in Johnson Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. He was born in the Little Valley community of Tannersville and lived there all of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, having served in World War II, and was a member of the Little Valley Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Ferley, and a brother, Eddie Taylor. Survivors include: his mother, Julia Ciccarello, Tannersville; two sons, Carlos J. Roby Bruce Jones ABINGDON - Mr. Roby Bruce Jones, age 69, went home to rest with his Savior Thursday, June 26, 2003, at the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. Born on April 23, 1934, he was a son of the late Lonzie Jones and Lula Price Jones. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eva Price Jones. He was a resident of Abingdon, where he worked as a convenience station attendant for the Washington County Solid Waste Department before his retirement. He is survived by a daughter, Wanda Moore and husband Steve of Saltville, Va.; a granddaughter, Amber Moore of Saltville; and a brother, Hassell Jones and wife Stella of Abingdon. She was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, a daughter of the late Mark B. Cross and Lucy Slaughter Cross, and was the widow of Owen W. Leonard, who died May 17, 2003. She was a retired Avon representative and a member of the Buffalo Christian Church. Survivors include her nephew, Randall S. A lifelong resident of the Buchanan and Russell county areas, she was a member of the Fletcher Ridge Primitive Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larkin McGlothlin; one daughter, Betty Rose; one son, Teddy McGlothlin; two sisters, Mary Haggerman and Margaret Childress; and five brothers, Roy Shortridge, Ira Shortridge, Henry Shortridge, Luther Shortridge and Carl Shortridge. Vaughan SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Charles G. Vaughan, 78, of the Hungry Hill section, was called safely home on Wednesday, June 25, 2003. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps prior to World War II at the Hungry Mother Park in Virginia. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and attained the rank of sergeant. Following World War II, he re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his country during the Korean conflict. He later served during the Vietnam conflict and received the Vietnam Service Medal. He retired from the Air Force after more than 20 years of service with the rank of staff sergeant. Following his military retirement, he was employed as a custodian for the Springfield School Department and worked at the Tapley Street School and the Glenwood Elementary School and retired in 1981. He also worked part-time at the Connecticut Valley Biological Supply Company in Southampton. He was born in Alvarado, Va., on Nov. 23, 1924, a son of the late Leslie E. and Eula L. (Larmer) Vaughan and moved to Springfield in 1962. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps Chapter 158 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home in Holyoke, a member and past senior vice commander of the Disabled American Veterans Post 68 in Springfield and a member of the Agawam and Fairview Sportsman's Clubs. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 46 years, Odelia R. (Cote) Vaughan, who was called home on Nov. 29, 1997; and his beloved son, Lance Cpl. Ronnie G. Vaughan, who was killed in action in Vietnam on Jan. 21, 1971. He was also predeceased by his dear brother, Jack Vaughan, who was called home on Oct. 12, 2001. He leaves his loving children, Brenda A. DiLuzio and husband Alan of East Longmeadow, Mary L. McIntire and her husband Robert of Chesterfield, Va., Joseph L. Vaughan and his wife Cynthia of Springfield, Edward A. Vaughan and his wife Lucy of Springfield, Rose M. Papineau and her husband Michael of Palmer, John C. Vaughan and his wife Deborah of Westfield and Linda R. Whalen and her husband Michael of Palmer; his 18 cherished grandchildren; his five cherished great- grandchildren; his dear brother, Jerry Vaughan of Damascus; his four dear sisters, Dorothy Smith of Fairfield, Va., Virginia Williamson of Meadowview, Ann Pierce of Abingdon and Marilyn Pennington of Nixa, Mo.; and his many dear nephews and nieces. His funeral will be held Monday morning, June 30, 2003, at 8:45 a.m. from the St. Pierre Springfield Funeral Chapels, 7 Chapin Terrace, at the corner of Chestnut Street in Springfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Hope Church, Armory Street, in Springfield. His burial with military honors will follow the Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, in Springfield.
