Mary St., died Saturday, June 28, 2003, at his residence. He is survived by his parents, Johnnie and Tammy Mitchell of Bristol Virginia; one brother, James Hopkins of Bristol Virginia; and two sisters, Racheal and Tiffany Mitchell of Bristol Virginia. Doris Louise Barrett TANNERSVILLE, Va. -- On June 29, 2003, the Lord took Doris Louise (Granny) Barrett home at 8 a.m. at Smyth County Community Hospital. Although born in North Carolina, she was a lifelong resident of Tannersville. She had a very successful life. Survivors: one son, Albert Neal Barrett Jr. and his wife, Cathy, of Tannersville; two daughters, Sarah Jane Lamie and Henry Jackson, of Saltville and Annie Mae Lamie of Saltville; one brother, Hiram Edgar Broome of Richmond; three sisters, Mrs. Patsy Delano and her husband, Howard, of Opholia, Va., Mrs. Sarah Walker and her husband, Jerry, of Hampton, Va., and Mrs. Johnnie Felter and her husband, Dennis, of Dinwiddie, Va.; grandsons, Henry Jackson Lamie Jr. and Tammy of Saltville and John Neal Barrett and his wife, Nancy, of Blacksburg, Va., and Charles Edward Lamie and his wife, Savannah, of Saltville; and great- grandchildren, Victoria Star and Benjamin Albert Lamie. "Pete" Chandler, 57, died Sunday evening, June 29, 2003, in the presence of his loving family at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born in Kingsport where he resided all of his life. Pete graduated from Lynn View High School in 1963, attended East Tennessee State University and graduated from the University of Tennessee. He had worked as an engineer for Siemens, TRW and Raytheon. He also had been a mechanical engineering instructor at Northeast State Technical Community College. Pete was a member of Ketron Memorial United Methodist Church, Whiteside Masonic Lodge 13 of Blountville and Tennessee Professional Engineers Association. Preceding him in death were his father, Charles L. Chandler Sr.; and step- granddaughter, Logan Lyn Wade. Surviving are his wife, Pat Chandler of the home; stepdaughter, Deena Parker, Kingsport; stepson, Richie Parker, Knoxville; two step-grandsons, Chase Parker and Lucas Parker; mother, Jerry Chandler, Morristown; one sister, Janie Bradley and husband, Joe, Morristown; two brothers, Charles L. Dora Blanche Counts ABINGDON -- Mrs. Dora Blanche Counts, age 92, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at the Grace Health Care Center. She was born on Jan. 13, 1911, in Washington County, Va., and was a daughter of the late Charles Akers and Mona Webb Akers. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Gilmer Counts. She attended Temple Baptist Church. She is survived by a brother, Curtis Akers of Marion, Ohio; special sisters-in- law, Joyce Akers and Ruth Taylor, both of Abingdon; special nieces, Angelia Akers of Abingdon and Vickie Kendrick and Tammy Vicidomini, both of Bristol Virginia; and several other nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at the graveside in Knollkreg Memorial Park, with Rev. John W. Price officiating. Born in Bristol Virginia, she lived in Kingsport for many years before moving to the Piney Flats area in 1981. Mrs. Howser had lived with her daughter in Gray for the past 10 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who will be missed by all. Mrs. Howser was a member of Oakwood Forest Christian Church, but for the past several years had attended Telford United Methodist Church. Bedford L. Perkins KNOXVILLE -- Bedford L. "Perk" Perkins, age 84, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, in Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center, Knoxville. He was born in Roxboro, N.C., and lived in Grundy and Lebanon before moving to Knoxville in 1978. He owned and operated the Russell Hardware & Furniture Company in Lebanon for many years. He also owned and operated Perks Markets in Maryville, Tenn., for 18 years until he retired. He was of the Southern Baptist faith. Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Betty Perkins of Knoxville; two daughters, Melissa Vandyke of Knoxville and Mardell Larcen of Saratoga, Calif.; one son, Hunter Perkins of Kingsport; and four grandchildren. He was a member of First Christian Church of Knoxville and a retired auditor with the IRS. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Kent Seale. She was born in Bristol Virginia, the daughter of the late John F. Clark and Dorothy Jones Clark, and was the widow of James D. Thomas. Survivors include two sons, Paul Francis Thomas and his wife Julie Hopper Thomas of Bristol Virginia, and Clark David Thomas and his wife Kaylin Marie Shannon of Dallas; a brother, Allen C. Clark and his wife Sue of Abingdon; three grandchildren, Chasen Andrew Thomas and Channing Maria Thomas of Bristol Virginia, and Kevin Shannon Thomas of Dallas; two nieces and 10 nephews.
