Campbell Funeral Home, Abingdon, is in charge of arrangements. Margie Berry ELIZABETHTON -- Monday, June 30, 2003, marked the passing of Margie Berry, 66, in the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native and lived most of her life in Elizabethton. She was the daughter of the late J.A. "Cap" Cardwell. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Berry. Mrs. Berry graduated from ETSU as a certified respiratory therapist. She also had a fruitful career as an employee of NASA at Cape Canaveral (Cape Kennedy) while living in Merritt Island, Fla., during the 1960s, where she knew many astronauts by their first names. She was devoted to her family and it was her joy to care for others, especially her mother, Vergie Cardwell. Her little dog, "Misha," was also a beloved part of her family. Margie said "that someday she would meet all her beloved pets at the "Rainbow Bridge." She was a lifelong animal lover and very active and generous to the Humane Society. Margie is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Gerry Hardin, Bristol; her mother, Vergie Cardwell, Elizabethon; a sister, Thelma Colbaugh, Elizabethton; granddaughter, Jennifer Oaks and her fiance, Mike Rutledge; a nephew, Chris Colbaugh and his wife, Trudy; grand-niece, Cameron Colbaugh; step- granddaughter, Joanna Hardin; and step-grandson, Joe Ward Hardin. Marie is also survived by aunt Nettie Yates; aunt Florence Cardwell; aunt Christine Cardwell; a very special aunt, Margaret Honeycutt; and a special friend, Becky Hale. Mr. Hardin was born July 17, 1928, in Elizabethton, a son of the late James and Jennie Perry Hardin and has made his home in the Bluff City area most of his life. Mr. Hardin was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Malone Hardin; and an infant grandson, Tony Nicholas Hardin. He was a retired employee of Twin City Decoration and Novelties and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Nancy Hargrave Nancy Harkrader Hargrave, 56, died Friday, June 27, 2003. Nancy was born on April 9, 1947, in Charleston, W.Va., and was reared in Bristol Tennessee. She was a graduate of Tennessee High School and the College of William and Mary, where she was member of Phi Beta Kappa. She later earned her Master of Science degree in counseling from Georgia State University. In 1973, she married William D. Hargrave. They made their home in Atlanta, where they reared their two sons. Mrs. Hargrave is survived by her mother, Lucille T. Harkrader; her husband, William D. Hargrave; two sons, Charles Win Hargrave and George Lewis Hargrave; a sister, Peg Harkrader James; and a brother, Charles J. Harkrader III. She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Charles J. Faye Ella Moretz KERNERSVILLE, N.C. -- Faye Ella Moretz, widow of Eston Duard Moretz, formerly from Doe Valley, Tenn., died June 30, 2003, at the home of her daughter in Kernersville. She was born Sept. 22, 1919, in Mabel, N.C., the daughter of the late Oscar Jordan Moretz and Virginia Kirby Moretz. She was baptized and became a member of Mabel Methodist Church and some years ago became a member of Union Cross Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Moretz and Denver Moretz. Surviving are a son, Fred B. Moretz, Walkertown, N.C.; five daughters: Martine Houser of Bristol Tennessee; Janet M. Miller of Madison Heights, Va.; Louise Chatam of High Point, N.C.; and Barbara Clodfelter and Brenda Boyles, both of Kernersville. She was the grandmother of 14 grandchildren; and 17 great- grandchildren. Born Dec. 23, 1917, in Council, Va., she was a daughter of the late Martin and Luanna Murphy Ball. A lifelong resident of the Buchanan County area, she was of the Free Will Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Ray; two sisters, Clara Ray and Helen Epperson; and four brothers, Carl Ball, Martin Ball Jr., Monroe Ball, and Floyd Ball. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Bessie Massengill Dempsey. Mrs. Weaver was a former employee of Bemberg Corp. and in later years a homemaker. She was a member of First Christian Church of Bluff City where she had served as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the church choir. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kyle F. Weaver; four sisters; and two brothers. Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Weaver of Bristol and Don Weaver of Bluff City; one daughter, Joyce W. He was formerly employed for 25 years at the Paty Company in Johnson City and retired as a security guard at Baxter-Pharmaseal of Johnson City. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, serving in World War II, and a member of the Watauga Masonic Lodge 622. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Grindstaff Worley; a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Norman Chesser of Elizabethton; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Anita Worley of Johnson City; six grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren.
