Dellie Fay Cook ROWE, Va. -- Mrs. Dellie Fay Cook, age 75, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2003, in a Richlands hospital. Born Feb. 24, 1928, in Buchanan County, Va., she was a daughter of the late James Rell and Callie Short Street. A lifelong resident of Buchanan County, she was a member of the Garden Free Holiness Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one infant son; her twin sister, Nellie Helton; three sisters, Dorothy Hill, Edith Baldridge and Oma Rowe; and two brothers, Memphis Street and Buster Street. Survivors include her husband, James "Bill" Cook, of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Dean) Brown and Mrs. Ralph (Sue) Shortridge, both of Rowe; five sons, Dempsey Street and his wife Tina, Larry Cook, Gary Cook and his wife Regina, Danny Cook and Tony Cook and his wife Sis, all of Rowe; a special person like a son, Bobby Street of Rowe; special daughter-in-law, Linda of Charlottesville, Va.; two sisters, Dolly McGlothlin and Joyce Shortridge, both of Rowe; three brothers, Lewis Street of Ohio, and Jim Street and Delmar Street, both of Rowe; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive. She was a native of Saltville and had lived most of her life in Bristol. She was a former member of the Madam Russell United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Leon F. Sprinkle Sr. and Edgar Davis, and a daughter, Nancy Ann Sprinkle. She is survived by two sons, William Malcolm Sprinkle of Abingdon and Leon F. Born June 26, 1934, in Russell County, Va., he was a son of the late Willie Lee and Sue E. Honaker. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a member of the Garden Baptist Church and of the Holiness faith. He was a disabled truck driver, having worked for Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company. He was a member of the Lions Club and Volunteer Fire Department, both of Oakwood, Va. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, A.G. Honaker. She was a graduate of Holston Valley (Tennessee) High School and received a B.S. degree in nursing from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Ga. She was a registered nurse with Watauga Medical Center Home Health Care in Boone and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She also served as a pastor's wife and formerly worked in nursing homes in Georgia. Survivors include her husband, Rev. Sam Reece was a very beloved husband and dad. Sam Reece was born on June 14, 1962, in Washington County, Va., a son to the Franklin Eugene and Jestie Gentry Reece. Sam Reece had lived all his life in the Bristol area and attended the Fleenor's Memorial Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Franklin Eugene Reece; and one brother, James David Reece. Rose, age 71, of 38 22nd St., went to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 6, 2003, in the Wellmont Hospice House. She was a native of Blountville and was the daughter of the late Isaac and Zola Goodman Shipley. She was a retired employee of the Bristol Tennessee School Systems. She was a member of the Windsor Avenue Presbyterian Church, where she was active in the Ladies Circle and Meals on Wheels. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Bascom S. Rose. Mr. and Mrs. Rose were active members of the Happy Hearts Club. Survivors include one son, David Rose and wife, Connie, of Bristol Tennessee; grandchildren, Christopher, Tiffany, Michael, Nathan, and Blake; sister, Mary Eva Gillikin, of Johnson City; aunt, Ida Poe, of Johnson City; and special sister-in-law, Evenlyn Shipley, of Bristol Virginia. Wedel BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Peter John Wedel, age 70, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2003, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born in Elizabeth, N.J., and was a son of the late Paul and Helen Wedel. He graduated from George Washington High School in Alexandria, Va., with one of his classmates as Willard Scott of NBC. He attended the University of Tennessee and Memphis State University on football scholarships and he later graduated with honors from East Tennessee State University. He was a Korean War veteran in the U.S. Army and was procurement manager for the Raytheon Company for many years. He was a former president of the Country Club of Bristol and was a member of Anderson Street United Methodist Church. Mr. Wedel married Vergie Kinser Wedel at St. Luke's Methodist Church in Memphis in 1953 and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Sheri Wedel of Bristol Tennessee; two sons, Peter Wedel and his wife, Joan, of Huschton, Ga., and Mark Wedel and his wife, Cheryl, of Bristol Tennessee; one sister, Diana Riley of Seabrook Beach, N.H.; one brother, Paul Wedel of Leola, Pa.; two granddaughters, Erica and Sally Wedel; one step-grandson, Brandon Ellison; his mother-in-law, Ruby Kinser of Bristol Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 6 o'clock, Wednesday evening, July 9, in the Akard Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jerry Fleenor officiating. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 10 o'clock Thursday morning at the graveside in the National Cemetery in Mountain Home, Tenn. His special friends and honorary pallbearers are Jim Robinette, Fred Cartwright, Paul Coomer, Don Sparger, Earl Pearce, Jim Hutchinson and Randy Osborne. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Highlands Fellowship Veteran Honor Guard. The family will receive friends following the funeral service at Akard Funeral Home.
