Boomershine PINEY FLATS -- Jack Mitchell Boomershine, 61, died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol Tennessee. He was a native of Elkhart, Ind., but spent the last 38 years in the Tri-Cities area working in the pizza restaurant business. He was the son of the late Noble and Emma Howard Boomershine. Mr. Boomershine was of the Christian faith. Survivors include one son, Ty Boomershine, Piney Flats; two daughters, Torrie Furman, Morehead, Ky., and Jacklyn Boomershine, Bluff City; four brothers, Dick, Burt, Bob and Jerry Boomershine, all of Indiana; one sister, Sharon Westlake of Indiana; five grandchildren; a special friend, Cecilia Parker, Morristown, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Harold Rush HAYSI -- Harold Ernest Rush, age 79, died Monday, July 21, 2003, at Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol Tennessee. Born in New York City, a son of the late Ernest Rush and Elizabeth Chiafulio Rush, he grew up across the Hudson River in West New York, N.J. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in China as a lieutenant with the 14th Air Force Flying Tigers. Upon his return from overseas, he married Orba Coleman and worked in the garment industry in New Jersey until 1952. He then moved with Orba to her hometown of Haysi. She preceded him in death on Feb. 29, 1996. He was a self-employed accountant and tax advisor, a field representative for the Virginia Employment Commission and taught some off-campus accounting classes for Southwest Virginia Community College. Harold attended the Bartlick Presbyterian Church. Over the years, he was involved with many organizations, including the Haysi Kiwanis Club for 47 years serving as past secretary, president, and lieutenant governor, the Haysi Rescue Squad, Haysi Fire Department, Haysi Town Council, Masonic Order, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Order of Kentucky Colonels, Haysi Little League baseball, the Haysi High School Athletic Boosters, Band Boosters, PTA and was a sports announcer for 37 years, the "Voice of the Tigers." Mr. Rush is survived by two sons, Bruce Rush of Abingdon and Ernest "Bink" Rush of Haysi; one sister, Gladys Ansell of Melbourne, Fla.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many special friends. A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Knollkreg Memorial Park with Rev. Ronnie Blevins officiating.
