Crutchfield CHILHOWIE -- Inez Bean Crutchfield, 96, died Friday, July 25, 2003, in the Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie. She was the daughter of the late Lovelace Lock and Martha Jane Taylor Bean and widow of George Allen Crutchfield. She was a member of the Chilhowie Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, George Duane and Judy P. Crutchfield, Spanish Fork, Utah, and Arlis R. and Judy W. Crutchfield, Chilhowie; one sister, Stella Vanhoy, Seven Mile Ford, Va.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday in Chilhowie Baptist Church, with Revs. Chuck Herrell and Neal Johnson officiating. Marie Easterling JOHNSON CITY -- Mrs. Marie Easterling, age 76, 612 Hazel St., died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital, following a brief illness. Mrs. Easterling was a native of Wise County, Va., and a resident of Norton until moving to Johnson City in 1959. She was a daughter of the late Arthur and Lucy Tate Shortt. Mrs. Easterling was retired from the Johnson City Medical Center after 38 years as a medical technologist. She was a member of Boones Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Easterling was preceded in death by her husband, James Henry Easterling Jr., in 2000; one daughter, Elizabeth Stewart, in 2001; four brothers, Creed Shortt, Edward Shortt, Curtis Shortt and Garlin Shortt; and three sisters, Mildred Crisp, Reba Greer and Betty Stewart. Survivors include two sons, Ken Easterling and wife, Sarita, of Johnson City, and Sam Easterling and wife, Lisa, Louisville, Tenn.; one daughter, Pat Walker and husband, David, Chattanooga; one brother, Delmer Shortt, Cleveland, Ohio; one sister, Dollie Brickey, Cleveland; five grandchildren, Todd Easterling, Bristol, David Walker Jr. and Mark Walker, both of Chattanooga, Emily Easterling, Louisville and Zachary Lovelace, Fall Branch; five great- grandchildren, Austin Easterling, Keely Easterling, Caleb Easterling and Eden Easterling, all of Bristol, and Mikayla Walker, Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews. He was born on June 2, 1938, in Dickenson County, Va., to the late Gordon Hubble and Winnie Sutherland Hubble. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Clady Johnson. Ray was a member of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church and the Man to Man Men's Fellowship Group of the church. He was a retired coal miner, having retired from the Clinchfield Coal Company. He is survived by his wife, Marie Hubble; a son, Freddie Hubble of Abingdon; a daughter, Karen Suarez of Florida; a sister, Maxine Chandler of Nora, Va.; two brothers, Hugh Hubble of Dante, Va., and Tommy Hubble of Castlewood; three grandchildren, Peyton, Bianca and Natonyah; and several nieces & nephews. He was retired from VDOT having worked in the Bristol District Office and he was a member of Fellowship Chapel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Clinton and Phoeba Leona Pierce Jones, and his wife, Annie Musick Jones. Mr. Jones is survived by one daughter, Kelly J. Zimmerman of Bluff City; two sisters, Edith Cox of Lutherville, Md., and Margaret Steward of Monkton, Md.; one brother, Harold Jones of Parkton, Md.; three grandchildren, Stephanie and Sarah Zimmerman and Cheyenne Ryans; and several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. A native of Blountville, he was a son of the late Robert and Stella Hicks Slaughter. Mr. Slaughter was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Otis and Wayne Slaughter, and one sister, Louise Slaughter. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Shirlene Slaughter; one grandson, Trei Slaughter of Bluff City; two sisters, Ruth Pairgin, Blountville and Glenna Slaughter, Bristol Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
